Juventus Pursues Zirkzee Amid Kolo Muani Negotiations
Joshua Zirkzee has given the green light. Now it is up to Juventus to turn approval into signatures and reshape an attack that has looked too thin, too predictable, for a club with their ambitions.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Manchester United forward has signalled his willingness to join the Bianconeri on loan this summer, with the Italian side locked in intensive talks with his agent, Kia Joorabchian, to thrash out the details of a deal. At the same time, Juventus are pushing ahead with a separate, heavyweight move: a €40 million swoop for Paris Saint-Germain striker Randal Kolo Muani.
Two deals. One clear objective: rebuild the frontline in a hurry.
Massara’s long courtship
Zirkzee is not a name plucked from a scouting database at the last minute. New football director Ricky Massara has been tracking him for some time and even tried to take him to Roma in the winter window. That attempt failed, but the admiration remained.
Now, in Turin, Massara finally sees the chance to land a player he considers tailor‑made for Luciano Spalletti’s ideas. Zirkzee’s 2023-24 campaign at Bologna – 12 goals and seven assists in Serie A – showcased the modern centre-forward he can be: technical, mobile, comfortable dropping between the lines and linking play.
His Premier League stint has told a harsher story. Since moving to England, he has struggled to impose himself, losing his starting berth and making just 19 starts across 68 league appearances over the past two seasons. The talent is obvious; the rhythm and confidence have not been. Juventus believe a change of scenery, and a system built to accentuate his qualities, can flip that narrative.
Spalletti’s football demands a forward who can knit attacks together as much as finish them. On paper, Zirkzee fits that brief.
Urgency after Ekhator injury
This is not a leisurely market exploration. An injury to young Italian striker Jeff Ekhator has sharpened the urgency in Turin. The squad was already light in certain attacking profiles; losing a promising option has forced Juventus to accelerate.
The club are now working on two fronts. One line of negotiation runs towards Manchester, where they are seeking a loan agreement with United for Zirkzee. The other leads to Paris, where CEO Giovanni Carnevali is, according to Gazzetta, driving talks over a €40 million transfer for Kolo Muani.
The plan is clear: pair Zirkzee’s touch and vision with Kolo Muani’s direct running and pace. One to come short, combine and create angles. The other to stretch defences, attack space and give Juventus the vertical threat they have often lacked. Inside the club, there is genuine belief that this blend could transform the attack into something far more dynamic and difficult to contain.
Spalletti waits – and the clock ticks
For now, Spalletti waits. The head coach has made no secret internally of his desire to have the bulk of his squad in place early, and he is pressing for clarity on when these two deals can be completed.
Pre-season is not just fitness work for him; it is tactical schooling. The earlier Zirkzee and Kolo Muani walk through the doors of the training centre, the more time Spalletti has to drill them into his patterns, rotations and pressing schemes. Delay, and Juventus risk entering the new campaign with key attackers still learning on the job.
There is little margin for that. The fixture list offers no gentle introduction. Juventus open their Serie A season away to newly-promoted Frosinone on August 23, a match that may look straightforward on paper but carries the usual traps of a noisy home crowd and an opponent desperate to make a statement.
By then, the question is simple: will Spalletti have his new-look strike force ready to lead the line, or will Juventus be chasing rhythm and chemistry on the fly in a season where every dropped point will be scrutinised?
