Lamine Yamal Embraces Barcelona’s Champions League Ambition
The young talent Lamine Yamal has openly welcomed Barcelona's strong desire to win the Champions League. The 2026-27 season sees the club once again placing Europe's top tournament at the center of their goals. Yamal described it as "cowardly" not to aim for European success, especially under coach Hansi Flick.
Despite not lifting the trophy since 2015, Barcelona have made deep runs in recent years, reaching the semi-finals and quarter-finals under Flick’s guidance. Yamal says he has no issue with the team’s obsession with the competition.
"I like that people come to the dressing room and believe that we can win the Champions League," he told Movistar. "The problem would be if someone said we are going to win it no matter what, because you never know this. But being obsessed with winning it I think is a good thing in the end."
He reminded everyone of Barcelona's rich history and past triumphs in Europe, saying they have the squad capable of returning to the pinnacle. To ignore the chance now and focus only on the domestic league would be, in his eyes, an act of cowardice.
La Liga and Champions League Ambitions Together
Yamal hasn't lost sight of La Liga either. In fact, he is optimistic about securing both the league title and the Champions League this season. He emphasized the importance of resilience during challenging phases in matches.
"We are going for the League, we can win the League and the Champions League, we have to be a team that can stick together during those bad 20 minutes," he said. "Those moments can be crucial for a team’s hopes of success."
