Leah Davidson Joins Charlton Athletic from Melbourne City

Charlton Athletic have moved to sharpen their midfield with the signing of Australian international Leah Davidson from A-League Women side Melbourne City on a two-year deal.

At 25, Davidson arrives with a heavyweight résumé. She has just completed six seasons in Australia, during which she collected three consecutive league titles and became a central figure in a dominant Melbourne City side. Since joining City from Brisbane Roar in 2020, she has passed the 100-appearance mark, a measure of both durability and trust from successive coaches.

Her consistency at club level pushed her into the international frame. Davidson has four caps for Australia, experience that immediately raises the competitive edge in Charlton’s midfield group.

For Charlton, this is the second significant addition in quick succession, following the arrival earlier this week of goalkeeper Anna Koivunen from Djurgardens IF. The pattern is clear: experience, pedigree, and players used to high standards.

“I am so excited to be here and be a part of something so special,” she said, reflecting on the decision to leave a club and a league where she had grown both “as a player and a person” over six years. The pull of a new challenge proved decisive. “I loved it… but I thought: ‘I can’t say no to this opportunity.’”

Charlton now have a title-hardened midfielder walking into their dressing room. How quickly Davidson imposes that winning mentality on the Championship stage will tell plenty about where this project is heading.
