Leeds Eye Perfect Start Against Brentford at Elland Road
Daniel Farke walks into Elland Road on Sunday with momentum at his back and a serious examination in front of him. Leeds United, unbeaten and chasing a third straight win in all competitions, host a Brentford side he has openly labelled the standout team of the early Premier League weeks.

Leeds’ preparations are not without complications. Mateo Joseph and Ilia Gruev remain sidelined with knee problems, though there is at least a sliver of encouragement on Gruev. The turnaround has been short, and Farke has made it clear the club must “wait how their body reacts” before deciding whether to risk either from the start.
If the medical team advises caution, Leeds are not short of alternatives across the midfield and defensive lines. The core of this side is settled, and crucially, it is winning.

There is little incentive to disrupt a team that has delivered back-to-back clean sheets in the league. Ethan Ampadu and Anton Stach are expected to continue as the double pivot in central midfield, a partnership that has given Leeds control and protection in front of the back line.
Behind them, the structure remains familiar. James Trafford is set to keep his place in goal, shielded by a back three of Joe Rodon, Jaka Bijol and Nermin Muharemović, with Jayden Bogle and James Justin providing the width in a 4-2-3-1 that often flexes into different shapes out of possession.
Up front, Dominic Calvert-Lewin leads the line again, and with good reason. He has scored in each of Leeds’ last two competitive games, offering the penalty-box presence and reliability this system needs. Harry Wilson and Brenden Aaronson are primed to operate just behind him, tasked with knitting attacks together and punishing any gaps Brentford leave when they step on.
