Liverpool's €135m Bid for Barcola Spurs PSG Decision
Liverpool have dramatically raised the stakes in their pursuit of Bradley Barcola, lodging an improved €135 million offer with Paris Saint-Germain as the transfer saga moves into a decisive phase, according to Foot01.
The French international was left out of PSG’s matchday squad for the game against Lens by Luis Enrique, a selection call that felt less like rotation and more like a message. In a squad loaded with attacking options, being completely omitted at this stage of the window is rarely accidental.
Barcola, formerly of Lyon, is understood to be clear about his intentions: he wants Liverpool, and he wants the move now. Earlier approaches from Anfield only just crept above the €100m mark, but Liverpool have now gone far higher, testing the resolve of PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi with a bid that demands serious consideration.
Liverpool’s financial muscle in this operation has been strengthened by the arrival of the Amazon boss into the club’s capital structure, a move that has emboldened the Reds to escalate their proposal rather than walk away. This time, PSG have not brushed the offer aside. Instead, executives in Paris are actively examining the €135m package and what it would mean for their squad and their balance sheet.
Inside PSG, Barcola had initially been given an internal valuation close to €150m, a price tag designed to ward off opportunistic bids. That stance is softening. Senior figures are now weighing up whether to climb down from that figure to avoid a protracted, destabilising saga reminiscent of Kylian Mbappé’s long goodbye.
Enrique declined to go public on Barcola’s future, but his decision to exclude the winger against Lens did the talking for him. For a player who has behaved professionally and not agitated publicly for a move, it was a striking call and one that underlines how advanced this situation has become.
Reports in England have also cooled talk of a late twist from elsewhere in the Premier League. Arsenal have been linked with Barcola, and there is genuine admiration for the player at the Emirates, but a move there is not seen as realistic. No club-to-club negotiations have taken place, and with Liverpool already deep into discussions, the Gunners are effectively watching from the sidelines.
That leaves Liverpool and PSG facing a clear choice. Les Parisiens must decide whether to lower their demands to facilitate a smooth exit for a player they rate highly but who is now edging towards the door. Liverpool, for their part, sense opportunity and are pushing to close.
With talks described as advanced and both clubs now seriously engaged, the transfer is closer than at any previous point. The Reds aim to wrap up an agreement in the coming days.
If they succeed, one of the summer’s most expensive and intriguing deals will belong to them — and Barcola will swap Paris for Anfield at the peak of his rise.
