Liverpool Pursue Bradley Barcola as PSG Moves for Akliouche
Liverpool’s summer has been a grind. Targets slipping away, negotiations dragging, the sense of a squad refresh stuck in second gear. Yet around Bradley Barcola, the mood is shifting. The deal is not done, the numbers are still heavy, but the path is clearing.
This is the one Liverpool cannot afford to lose.
A window of frustration, and a winger they can’t miss
Yan Diomande is heading for Real Madrid. Michael Olise is staying put. Two major attacking options gone. For a club that has been “crying out” for more wide threats, the margin for error is shrinking fast.
Andoni Iraola has not stood still. Jeremy Jacquet and Victor Munoz are through the door, important pieces for the evolution of this Liverpool side. Yet neither answers the question out wide the way Barcola might. Nor does Ibrahim Mbaye, another PSG talent Liverpool are tracking and now feel empowered to move for, despite interest from Manchester City.
Barcola is different. Younger, explosive, and already operating at the sharp end of European football. This is the profile Liverpool have built eras around.
Player buy-in: Liverpool’s biggest weapon
On the numbers, Liverpool and PSG are miles apart. On intent, Barcola is already halfway to Anfield.
Reports this week say Liverpool have upped their offer, with the 21-year-old preferring them over Arsenal. Crucially, he has told PSG he does not want to extend his contract beyond 2028. For a selling club, that changes everything. Not overnight, but steadily, relentlessly.
L’Equipe journalist Loïc Tanzi has gone as far as to say he is “inclined to say yes” when asked if Liverpool will get the deal done. PSG want around €150m (about £145m) excluding bonuses. Liverpool are pushing to stay closer to €120m (around £100m). A gulf, but not an unbridgeable one in this market.
Tanzi added that Barcola has already agreed terms with Liverpool. That is the kind of leverage clubs at the buying end crave. When the player has chosen, the rest becomes a question of how much pain each side is willing to absorb.
PSG make their move – and open the door
The pressure on PSG to soften their stance grows by the day. On Thursday, they moved decisively for Barcola’s heir.
Maghnes Akliouche has landed in Paris to complete his transfer from AS Monaco, with Fabrizio Romano revealing a €50m deal was agreed last week and is now being formally signed. A creative, technical winger stepping into a squad that already has depth out wide.
For Liverpool, that is more than a footnote. Once a replacement is secured, PSG’s need to cling to Barcola weakens. They can still hold out for a premium fee, but the internal logic shifts: a big sale funds the rebuild, and the dressing room turns the page.
If PSG also manage to bring in a striker, as Tanzi suggested, the chances of a compromise figure become even stronger. The French champions will not want an unhappy player running down leverage on a long contract while his successor beds in.
Bayern bow out – for now
One more obstacle has eased. Bayern Munich, perennial predators in the elite winger market, are out of this race.
German reporter Christian Falk has made it clear: Barcola is too expensive for Bayern this summer. The irony is not lost in Munich. A player they admire is, in his words, “not too expensive for Liverpool right now”.
Bayern have other fires to manage. Olise is staying where he is for now, but his long-term future remains uncertain. Falk notes that if Olise does not renew, Bayern could be forced into a sale next summer. In that scenario, Barcola sits at the top of their list as a replacement.
That gives this window a sharp edge. If Liverpool fail to close now and Barcola stays at PSG another year, Bayern will be waiting. The German champions rarely miss twice.
A deal that defines a summer
Strip it back, and three forces are pushing this transfer towards Liverpool:

The money still bites. PSG are holding out for a figure that would smash Liverpool’s transfer record. Liverpool, as ever, want value, even at the top end of the market. Somewhere between €120m and €150m lies a number that tests both clubs’ resolve.
This is not just another signing. It is a statement about what this new Liverpool under Iraola is going to be: aggressive in the market, bold in reshaping an attack that has carried the club for years, unafraid to go toe-to-toe with Europe’s richest.
