Loïs Openda Joins Lyon on Loan from Juventus

Loïs Openda’s brief spell in Turin is about to be put on pause. After just one season with Juventus, the Belgian forward is heading to Ligue 1, with Olympique Lyonnais closing in on a straight loan deal for the 2026-27 campaign.

Multiple outlets, including Sky and Fabrizio Romano, report that Juventus and Lyon have reached an agreement for a simple season-long loan, with no option or obligation to buy. Lyon will pay a fee in the region of €3m to secure Openda’s services for the year.

No complicated clauses. No buy-back puzzles. Just a clean loan.

Crucially for Juventus, Lyon are understood to be covering Openda’s salary in full. Earlier in the week, there were suggestions that the Italian club might have to shoulder part of his wages to make the move happen. That stance has shifted. The French side will take on the entire package.

For Lyon, it is a clear statement of intent. Openda arrives to work under Paulo Fonseca, the former Milan head coach tasked with sharpening an attack that has often flattered to deceive. A striker with Serie A experience, still in his prime years, stepping into a league that has long been a showcase for dynamic forwards.

For Juventus, it is a different kind of play. A player who featured in Serie A as recently as January 6, 2026 – away at Sassuolo at the Mapei Stadium – is now being moved to free up space and salary, while still retaining full control of his future.
