Manchester United's Bid for Lewis Hall: A £60m Test for Newcastle
Manchester United are preparing to test Newcastle United’s resolve with an opening bid for Lewis Hall in what is set to be their most expensive move of the summer, with Fabrizio Romano stating the deal has been “approved” internally at Old Trafford.

Hall: internally “approved” and top of the list
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano underlined just how far United have moved in their pursuit of Hall, the starting left-back at St James’ Park.
“Man Utd really appreciate Lewis Hall and Man Utd consider Lewis Hall as an ideal player they would like to add to their squad,” he said, stressing that the 19-year-old is “on the Manchester United list, for sure” and “internally approved”.
United see Hall as a prime target. They have already opened lines of communication to gauge the conditions of a possible deal and to understand Newcastle’s stance. The admiration is not new; Romano pointed out he first flagged United’s interest back in June and has not shifted from that position.
The problem for United is simple: Newcastle do not want to sell.
Romano was clear on that point. Newcastle, already banking big money from the departures of Tonali, Gordon and the expected exit of Guimaraes, are determined to draw a line somewhere. For them, that line is Lewis Hall.

A £60m test of Newcastle’s resistance
That stance is about to be examined. TEAMtalk insider Graeme Bailey reported on July 30 that United’s opening bid is being drafted, with Newcastle valuing Hall at around £60m.
At that price, Hall would become Manchester United’s most expensive signing of the summer, eclipsing the £50m outlay on Andrey Santos (£48m plus £2m in add-ons). For a club that has already done significant business in June and July, it is a statement that they are not closing the chequebook yet.
United’s need at left-back is obvious; their intent is now just as clear. Hall, young, homegrown, Premier League-ready and tactically versatile, fits the profile of the modern full-back United want to build around.
But this is no straightforward chase. Newcastle’s refusal to sell collides head-on with United’s desire to buy. Something has to give.
Romano urged caution before anyone assumes United will simply go “all in” regardless. The key, he stressed, is Newcastle’s position. Until that softens, this remains a pursuit rather than a negotiation.
