Manchester United Should Seize Opportunity for Endrick
Endrick hasn’t long been in Europe, but already his name is back on the market agenda. Not officially, not from Real Madrid, but in the minds of those who look at the Brazilian’s situation and see a rare opportunity.
Ale Moreno is one of them. The former forward believes Manchester United, of all clubs, should be ready to move if the door opens.
Real Madrid paid Palmeiras around £50 million to secure Endrick when he was just 16. A statement signing. A bet on the next great Brazilian No 9. But life in the Spanish capital has a hard ceiling right now: Kylian Mbappe.
Breaking into a front line built around Mbappe is a brutal task for any young striker. Endrick has found that out quickly.
“The more you think about it…”
Speaking on ESPN, Moreno laid out the dilemma with the clarity of someone who has lived the game.
“I really do think that Real Madrid could use Endrick this season. So, if I were Endrick, I actually would consider staying at Real Madrid,” he said, making it clear the champions of Europe are still the best finishing school in theory.
Then came the twist.
“But if the question is about where he would go, where he should go, where he may end up… we’ve talked a lot about Manchester United. The more you think about it, the more it makes sense to have a player with a profile of Endrick.
“He is different than anything else they have in the attack in a central position. So, I’m thinking that perhaps that could be a place that could think about Enrick as a possibility.”
United, short of variety and spark through the middle, tick plenty of boxes. A young, explosive forward who can run in behind, link play and carry a long-term ceiling? It fits the type of rebuild they keep promising.
For Endrick, Moreno argues, Old Trafford would carry weight. Prestige. A stage big enough to match his ambition without feeling like he’s slipped down a level.
“It wouldn’t feel like such a demotion if you will,” he added. After a standout loan spell last season, Endrick is entitled to think bigger than simply waiting on the bench in Madrid.
Villa’s bold idea – and Mourinho’s veto power
United are not alone in being linked. Aston Villa, riding the momentum of Champions League qualification under Unai Emery, are reportedly exploring an ambitious loan move.
Emery wants depth. Morgan Rogers has gone to Chelsea in a record-breaking deal for the club, and the demands of Europe will stretch Villa’s squad. A season of Endrick at Villa Park, with his direct running and eye for goal, would add a dangerous edge to an already aggressive attacking unit.
The problem? Any Premier League move has to pass through one man: José Mourinho.
The legendary Portuguese coach has taken charge at the Bernabeu and, according to reports, has been impressed with what he has seen from Endrick in pre-season. That changes the equation. If Mourinho decides the youngster is ready to push Mbappe and new signing Carlos Espi, the pathway for both United and Villa could close in an instant.
Mourinho has never been shy about trusting players who convince him on the training ground. If Endrick has done that, the idea of him being farmed out on loan again becomes far less likely.
Lyon loan showed the ceiling
What makes this tug-of-war interesting is that Endrick has already shown he can carry a team’s attack. His loan spell at Lyon in the second half of last season was a reminder of why Madrid moved so early.
Eight goals and eight assists in just 21 appearances. Those are not the numbers of a kid just finding his feet. Those are the numbers of a player ready for responsibility.
He didn’t just pad his stats in low-pressure games. He drove Lyon forward, became a focal point, and proved he can impact matches consistently when trusted with minutes.
That’s exactly why voices like Moreno’s are growing louder. A player with that output at his age cannot afford a year lost on the bench.
“Otherwise what’s the point?”
Not everyone believes a giant like United or a Champions League-chasing Villa is the right next step, though.
Steve Nicol, the former Liverpool defender, sees the situation more bluntly. For him, the priority is simple: guaranteed minutes.
“I was thinking more along the lines of a Fulham where he’s 100 per cent going to play,” Nicol said. Fulham, under a progressive coach, would offer attacking football, space to make mistakes, and the promise of being a starter rather than a rotation option.
“Fulham are going to play attacking football. They’re not going to win all the time [but] they’re going to win a fair share, they’re going to create chances.”
The point is not about glamour. It’s about development.
“Somebody like Endrick has to go somewhere where he’s going to play all the time, otherwise what’s the point of moving away from Real Madrid?” Nicol concluded.
That question hangs over every suitor.
United can offer history and a project. Villa can offer Champions League football and a tactically sharp coach. A club like Fulham can offer near-total certainty of minutes. Madrid, with Mourinho watching closely, can offer the highest level of competition and the daily challenge of trying to unseat Mbappe.
Endrick’s next move will say a lot about what he values most at this stage of his career – and just how brave he, and Real Madrid, are willing to be.
