Manchester United Faces Injury Crisis with Amad Diallo and Mason Mount

Manchester United’s week has gone from bad to worse.

Still reeling from Saturday’s opening-day defeat at Hull City, the club has now been hit with a fresh injury blow, with Amad Diallo facing a spell on the sidelines after picking up a problem in training.

A well-sourced United insider, speaking via UtdDistrict, has revealed that initial scans indicate Amad could be ruled out for up to six weeks. The winger was already a surprise absentee from the travelling squad for the season-opener at the MKM Stadium, and that omission now has a worrying explanation.

If the early prognosis holds, Amad may not feature until the start of October, robbing United of one of their more dynamic attacking options just as the new campaign gets underway.

Mount, Amad, and a growing list

The timing could hardly be worse. Amad’s setback lands just days after confirmation of Mason Mount’s latest layoff.

Mount suffered a hamstring injury in United’s pre-season clash with Paris Saint-Germain, ruling him out of the remaining warm-up fixtures and the defeat to Hull. It’s another frustrating chapter in a United career that has yet to find sustained rhythm. Since joining the club in 2023, the 27-year-old has not managed a single season without significant fitness interruptions, a pattern that now shadows almost every mention of his name.

United staff are said to be hopeful that Mount’s issue is only minor, and his involvement — or lack of it — in training this week will be watched closely. Any sign of him stepping up his workload would be a welcome sight for a squad suddenly looking thin in key areas.

Supporters, meanwhile, will be waiting for the club to break its silence on Amad with an official update, having so far relied on insider reports for details of the injury.

De Ligt still out, Baleba to wait

The treatment room is already busy.

Matthijs de Ligt remains sidelined as he continues his recovery from the back injury that cut short his 2025/26 campaign back in November. His absence has dragged on, depriving United of a high-profile defensive presence and forcing the coaching staff to keep shuffling options at the back.

Incoming midfielder Carlos Baleba, whose switch from Brighton and Hove Albion is described as imminent, will not be an instant solution either. He is still nursing an ankle ligament injury sustained in pre-season with Brighton, meaning that even once the paperwork is complete, he will have to wait before he can make his United debut.

So, as the club tries to reset after a bruising start, the picture is clear: key players are missing, and some of the new faces cannot yet help.

Six days to respond

There is no time for self-pity.

United have six days to regroup before walking out at Old Trafford for the first time in the 2026/27 season, hosting newly promoted Ipswich Town on Sunday. The mood around the stadium will depend heavily on what happens between now and then — on the training pitch, in the medical room, and possibly in the final moves of the transfer market.

With Amad likely out until October, Mount racing the clock, De Ligt still recovering and Baleba unavailable on arrival, the question is blunt: who steps up now, and how quickly can United turn a stuttering start into a statement?
