Manchester United Scouts Discover ‘Top-Level’ Striker Kaua Elias
Manchester United’s summer rebuild is not finished yet, and their search for firepower has taken them to Lviv, where a 20-year-old Brazilian may just have changed the tempo of his career in one ruthless evening.
On Monday, Shakhtar Donetsk forward Kaua Elias produced the kind of performance that makes notebooks snap shut and phones start buzzing. A perfect hat-trick in a 5-1 demolition of Kudrivka – left foot, right foot, header – delivered in front of watching scouts from some of Europe’s heaviest hitters.
Among them, according to reports, were Manchester United and Arsenal. Both left with plenty to discuss.
A statement hat-trick
Elias didn’t just score three. He set the tone for a Shakhtar side that tore through Kudrivka in Lviv, his movement and finishing driving a rout that will now echo around recruitment meetings across the continent.
Shakhtar value him at around £30 million, a figure that no longer sounds fanciful when you look at his short but sharp body of work. Since arriving from Fluminense in 2025, the striker has registered 12 goals and three assists in 39 appearances – solid numbers for a 20-year-old adapting to European football and the demands of a club that expects to dominate domestically and compete in Europe.
The hat-trick simply sharpened the focus.
United’s scouts impressed
United’s recruitment staff were not in Ukraine by accident. They had already carried out assessments of Elias’ recent performances and were sent to watch him up close, to test whether the data and the clips matched the reality.
The feedback, according to those close to the process, has been emphatic. Elias has been flagged as having the potential to grow into a “top-level centre-forward”, the kind of long-term project United have been keen to identify rather than overpaying for finished articles.
Crucially, he is viewed as a strong tactical fit. Those inside Old Trafford believe he would mesh well with United’s press-heavy, fast-transition approach – a forward who can harry defenders, spin into space and still carry a penalty-box threat. Not just a goalscorer, but a trigger for the press.
That alignment has pushed the club towards the next step. An official bid is now expected.
Arsenal and Europe join the chase
United, though, are not alone at the table.
Arsenal have been monitoring Elias for several weeks, tracking his adaptation at Shakhtar and his progress in front of goal. The London club continue to scan the market for a young forward who can grow into their system, and Elias has stayed firmly on their radar.
Beyond the Premier League, AC Milan and Porto are also in the frame. Rossoneri chiefs are understood to be weighing up a move, while Elias’ representatives have already received what have been described as “concrete signals” from interested clubs.
The player himself is open to a step into one of Europe’s elite leagues. The timing feels right. The question now is who moves first, and who blinks.
A gap in United’s forward line
Back in Manchester, the need is clear.
Michael Carrick’s senior squad currently lists only Benjamin Sesko as a recognised out-and-out centre-forward. Joshua Zirkzee is expected to depart, with Juventus pushing to take the Dutchman to Serie A, which would strip away another option through the middle.
United have acted decisively in midfield, bringing in Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans to reshape the engine room. They are still in the market for a third midfielder, a full-back and a striker before the window closes, but the lack of depth up front threatens to become the most pressing concern.
That is where Elias comes in. Young, relatively affordable in a hyper-inflated market, and suited to the style United want to impose. He ticks boxes that matter in modern recruitment: age profile, resale potential, tactical compatibility.
The club’s outgoing business underlines the transition. On Friday, goalkeeper Altay Bayindir left for Celta Vigo on an initial loan, with the La Liga side holding an option to make the move permanent for £3.5m. Space is being cleared, wages shifted, a squad reshaped.
Now the focus turns to the top end of the pitch.
United have seen their possible No. 9 of the future dismantle a defence in Lviv. The scouts have reported back. The competition is circling.
