Manchester United Targets 45-Goal Wonderkid Blake Henry

Manchester United’s recruitment drive in the academy ranks is stepping up, and this time the focus is on one of the most prolific young strikers in the country.

United are in talks to sign 14-year-old Blake Henry from Derby County, a forward who smashed in 45 goals across all levels last season and has already broken into England’s Under-15 setup. For a player who only turned 14 a few months ago, his numbers have forced clubs to take notice.

Henry has already dipped his toes into the U18 Premier League, becoming one of the youngest players to feature in the competition this season. Derby used him sparingly at that level – just 24 minutes spread over a couple of games – but he did not need much more time elsewhere to build a fearsome reputation in youth football. Across all age groups and competitions, he kept scoring and did not stop, ending the campaign as one of the standout attacking prospects in the country.

That kind of output has not gone unnoticed. Manchester City have also shown interest, yet United are understood to be leading the chase, pushing hard to bring him into their own academy as part of a broader strategy to refresh and upgrade their youth ranks with elite talent from across the country.

If Henry does make the move, Derby will be entitled to compensation. The fee will not be plucked from thin air. It will be calculated on a set of criteria: his age, how long he has been at Derby’s academy, the category of the academy signing him, and the club’s investment in his development and training to date.

The ideal scenario for all sides is a negotiated agreement between the two clubs. If that proves impossible, the case will go before a Professional Football Compensation Committee tribunal, which will decide the final figure and terms.

United have been casting the net wide this summer, assessing a number of standout youngsters at rival academies as they look to restock the pipeline to their first team. If they can close this deal, Blake Henry could become the latest statement that the rebuild at Old Trafford is starting from the very bottom and working its way up.
