Manchester United Target Morgan Rogers in £100m Transfer Battle
Manchester United’s summer rebuild is starting to take shape, and a surprise name sits near the top of their attacking wishlist: Morgan Rogers.
The Aston Villa forward, only 23 and barely a year into a six-year deal at Villa Park, has forced his way into the conversation at Old Trafford after a standout campaign that has put half the Premier League on alert.
A rising star with heavyweight suitors
United are “in the mix” to move for Rogers once the season ends, with scouts tracking him closely as he edges towards what is expected to be a place in Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad. His numbers justify the attention.
Rogers has directly contributed to almost a third of Villa’s 42 league goals this season, scoring eight and laying on five more in 31 appearances. He has become a central pillar of Villa’s attack, not just a promising youngster on the fringes.
That kind of output has not gone unnoticed. Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal are all long-term admirers and are ready to challenge United for his signature this summer, according to reports. This is not a quiet chase. It is shaping into a full-scale bidding war.
Rogers, for his part, has not ruled out a move. Despite signing fresh terms only last November, he wants to be part of a side that competes for major trophies year in, year out. If that ambition cannot be fully satisfied at Villa, the door is open.
A price to test United’s resolve
Any club that wants him will have to pay. A lot.
Villa are under no pressure to sell and have a long contract in their favour. Early indications suggest a deal could even eclipse the £100 million Manchester City paid for Jack Grealish in 2021, which remains Villa’s record sale.
Rogers joined from Middlesbrough in February 2024 and has since racked up 114 appearances in all competitions, with 27 goals and 24 assists. That volume of games and end product in such a short span has transformed his market value.
United know they would be paying for more than raw potential. They would be paying for a player already carrying the creative burden at a European-chasing club, with the promise of more to come.
Midfield shake-up sets the stage
The pursuit of Rogers comes against the backdrop of a looming overhaul in United’s midfield and attacking structure.
Casemiro has already confirmed he will leave when his contract expires in June. Manuel Ugarte, used sparingly by Michael Carrick this season, faces an uncertain future, with interest emerging from Italy according to Fabrizio Romano.
United are lining up replacements. Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali are both viewed as possible reinforcements, while Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson remains a long-term target. The plan is clear: refresh the core of the side and build a new spine.
In that context, Rogers represents the kind of dynamic, multi-functional attacker United have lacked in recent years — someone who can link midfield to attack, create, score, and press from the front.
Where Rogers would fit at Old Trafford
Drop Rogers into a United XI next season and his role almost writes itself.
He profiles as the attacking connector, operating off the left or in the half-spaces, driving at defenders and feeding the central striker. With his blend of goals and assists, he would immediately compete for a starting berth in the forward line, offering flexibility across the front three.
United’s recruitment team see the need for exactly that sort of profile as they reshape the squad. The question is not whether Rogers would fit. It is whether they are prepared to go toe-to-toe financially with their Premier League rivals and meet Villa’s demands.
Because if the numbers do climb beyond the Grealish fee, this will not just be a transfer. It will be a statement about where Manchester United intend to go — and who they want leading the charge.
