Roberto Mancini Applauds Italy’s Resilience After Convincing Win Over Turkey
Roberto Mancini, head coach of Italy, expressed his satisfaction following a commanding 4-1 victory against Turkey in Bursa during the UEFA Nations League. Despite tough weather and a heavy pitch, the team bounced back strongly after their earlier loss to Belgium.
The heavy rain had threatened Italy's usual smooth passing style, but the squad maintained composure and sharpness throughout the match. Mancini praised the players’ professionalism in adapting to challenging conditions, saying, "I am satisfied because the boys played well on a tough pitch and it wasn’t easy. They did beautiful things and I’m happy for them because they deserve it."
Strategic Flexibility and Attacking Roles
The Italian front three created significant problems for the Turkish defense with fluid movements and precise positioning. Mancini revealed the tactical plan was focused on exploiting space by assigning different roles to each forward, combining wide play and central overloads to unsettle opponents.
He explained the instructions given: "I asked the attackers to start wide, with Sebastiano Esposito staying wide on the left, Giacomo Raspadori moving inside to support Pio Esposito, and Michael Kayode attacking on the right." Mancini also acknowledged Turkey’s expected reaction in the second half, describing it as predictable and normal.
Michael Kayode’s Impressive Debut
Michael Kayode made a memorable first appearance for the senior national team by scoring a goal and performing strongly on the flank. He integrated into the system seamlessly, balancing defensive responsibilities with aggressive forward runs, which fit perfectly into Italy’s tactical approach that night.
Mancini praised Kayode’s overall contribution beyond just scoring: "He was very good, it was his first time in the national team and it wasn’t easy for him. But he was good beyond the goal scored."
Looking Ahead to France Clash
Despite the convincing win, Mancini remains cautious about getting ahead of himself. He stressed that this victory is part of a longer process and not an end goal. The focus now shifts to recovery and preparing for a tough upcoming match against France, where the challenge will be greater.
Reflecting on the psychological boost from this result compared to the defeat against Belgium, Mancini said, "It’s worth as much as the defeat against Belgium was worth. What matters is that the boys have understood that they can do good things, but the road is still long. Now we have to recover our strength because then there is a difficult match against France."
