Martin Sherif Charged by FA for Betting Breaches

Everton forward Martin Sherif has been charged by the Football Association over alleged breaches of betting regulations spanning a 15-month period.

The 20-year-old is accused of placing 61 bets on football matches between 20 November 2024 and 12 February 2026. He has been given until Monday, 17 August, to respond to the charges.

“Martin Sherif of Everton FC has been charged with breaching the FA's betting rules,” the FA said in a statement. “It's alleged that the player breached FA Rule E1.2 in respect of 61 bets placed on football matches between 20 November 2024 and 12 February 2026. Martin Sherif has until Monday 17 August to provide a response.”

Young career under scrutiny

Born in Liberia, Sherif joined Everton’s academy in 2019 and worked his way through the youth ranks before beginning to train with the first team in early 2025. His rise had been steady, if disrupted.

Last summer he moved to League One side Rotherham United on loan, scoring twice in 10 games. That spell was cut short in December when a series of injuries forced Everton to recall him.

He returned to League One in February, this time with Port Vale for the remainder of the campaign. Sherif again scored twice, this time across 17 league appearances, as Vale slipped to relegation.

Now, instead of talking about his next step in senior football, the conversation turns to FA Rule E1.2, 61 alleged bets, and a deadline in August that could shape the direction of his career.
