Milan Targets Breel Embolo as Transfer Market Heats Up

Milan have set their sights on Breel Embolo as a possible new pillar of their attack, but they are walking into a crowded race for the Switzerland international.

The Rennes forward, fresh from an impressive World Cup and tied to the French club until 2029, has emerged as the latest name on Rúben Amorim’s shortlist. According to calciomercato.com, Milan have already opened talks with Embolo’s agent to understand the margins of a deal — both in terms of feasibility and price.

Rennes, for their part, have not yet been approached directly. The Ligue 1 side value the striker at around €15m, a figure that places him firmly in the “opportunity” bracket for top clubs looking to reshape their front lines. One key detail tilts the scenario slightly in Milan’s favour: Embolo has already indicated he would be open to a return to Italy.

He will have options.

Napoli, now under Massimiliano Allegri, also list Embolo among their targets as they plan the next phase of their rebuild. Bournemouth are keeping close tabs as well, with the Premier League seen as a destination the player would gladly explore. His name has circulated in Serie A circles for some time, with Juventus and Roma among the clubs to have shown interest in previous windows.

Right now, though, the Italian contenders are stuck in traffic.

Milan are waiting for the kind of offer for Rafael Leão that justifies breaking up their current attacking structure. Their valuation is clear: €50m or nothing. Until that arrives, major investment in a new forward remains complicated on a financial and tactical level.

Napoli face a different kind of logjam. Sporting director Giovanni Manna is working to find a new club for Romelu Lukaku, whose future once again sits at the centre of their planning. Only once the Belgian’s situation is resolved can Napoli fully commit to a move for another striker.

There is, however, an alternative route for Milan that could accelerate everything. Santiago Giménez is among the players who could leave, and if the Mexican striker does depart, the Rossoneri may push for Embolo regardless of what happens with Leão. One exit in attack could be enough to trigger a decisive move.

For now, Embolo remains more of a strategic idea than an active negotiation. But ideas in the summer market have a habit of turning into bids very quickly. Once the first big striker deal drops and the dominoes start to fall, Milan, Napoli and Bournemouth all know the race for Embolo will not wait for anyone.
