Mir Hamza Sajjad Injured During Islamabad United Nets
Islamabad United’s preparations for their next Pakistan Super League fixture were jolted on Tuesday when young pacer Mir Hamza Sajjad was struck on the head during a net session and briefly lost consciousness.
The incident unfolded at the Hanif Mohammad High-Performance Centre, where the two-time PSL champions were going through routine training. Mark Chapman, part of the Islamabad squad, lost control of a shot in the nets. The ball flew off his bat, struck Sajjad on the back of the head, and the right-arm medium-fast bowler collapsed to the ground, according to Pakistan-based outlet Geo Super.
Training stopped instantly. Players and support staff rushed towards Sajjad as medical personnel stepped in. What had been a standard practice run turned suddenly quiet, the mood shifting from competitive to anxious in a matter of seconds.
Sajjad was taken to a nearby hospital for examination. Geo Super reported that he later regained consciousness and is now stable, offering some relief to a visibly shaken camp. As a precaution, doctors will conduct a CT scan to rule out any internal damage.
Islamabad United have not yet issued an official statement, but word of Sajjad’s improving condition has eased immediate fears within the squad.
The 23-year-old pacer is still at the start of his professional journey. He has played six T20 matches so far, taking eight wickets, and has 25 wickets from eight First-Class games. Islamabad United picked him up in the first PSL players’ auction for PKR 70 lakh, a significant investment in a developing quick who is yet to make his PSL debut.
For a player on the cusp of breaking into the league, this was supposed to be another step towards that first appearance. Instead, it became a stark reminder of the risks that exist even in controlled training environments.
Current Campaign Status
Away from the scare, Islamabad United’s campaign continues to gather shape. Under Shadab Khan’s leadership, they sit third on the PSL points table with two wins, one loss and one no-result, giving them five points and a healthy net run rate of 1.055.
Next Fixture
Next up is Lahore Qalandars at the National Bank Stadium on Thursday. All eyes will be on the contest, but within the Islamabad camp, there will be one more quiet hope: that Mir Hamza Sajjad’s recovery keeps pace with his promising rise.
