Mohamed Salah's Next Move: A Decision Imminent
Ramy Abbas Issa rarely wastes words. When he speaks, people in football listen. When he posts, they refresh.
This time, Mohamed Salah’s long-time representative has offered the clearest indication yet that the former Liverpool star is close to deciding his next move.
Salah’s next chapter edging closer
Salah walked away from Anfield this summer after nine glittering years, agreeing with Liverpool to terminate his contract 12 months early and leave as a free agent. A modern club great, 442 games played, countless records broken – and then, suddenly, a blank page.
That blank page is about to be filled.
“We still do not know where Mohamed will play next season but we may know very soon,” Abbas wrote on social media, a line that will only heighten the anticipation around one of the most high-profile free agents in world football.
The message was brief, but pointed. “It is not our style to have discussions with clubs that Mohamed wouldn’t want to play for, just for the sake of noise.”
In other words: ignore the circus, the shortlist is real and it’s tight.
Saudi, MLS and Turkey wait
The queue for Salah’s signature has formed quickly. Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal have long been viewed as the leading contenders, armed with the financial muscle and ambition to make him their next marquee signing.
Across the Atlantic, MLS clubs in the United States have also registered interest, sensing a rare opportunity to bring a global superstar to a league still hungry for statement arrivals. From Europe, Turkish giants Galatasaray, Fenerbahce and Besiktas have all been linked, each offering fervent support, Champions League ambitions and a central role for a player who still shapes games at the highest level.
Salah’s status remains undimmed. He has just helped Egypt reach the last 16 of the World Cup, underlining that his impact extends far beyond Merseyside. Wherever he goes next, he will not be a fading icon cashing in on past glories. He will be expected to lead.
A controlled silence
Abbas has been carefully managing the noise around his client all summer. On May 24, just hours after Salah’s 442nd and final appearance for Liverpool, he fired a warning shot at the rumour mill.
“We do not know where Mohamed will play next season,” he posted. “This also means that no one else knows. Beware of the click-w****** attention seekers.”
The message was clear: speculation is cheap, access is not.
On June 12, he doubled down on that stance. “Mohamed is doing perfectly fine and neither he nor I prefer to discuss sensitive future plans with people not involved in them. Both he and I are very private about these things. Yes, people may ask and they may get a standard polite response but that’s about it.”
No leaks. No teasing interviews. Just a tight inner circle and the occasional, pointed update.
Decision time
Now, though, the tone has shifted. The insistence that “we do not know” has been replaced with “we may know very soon.” For clubs chasing Salah, that sounds like the clock ticking.
Al-Hilal’s project, MLS’s growing pull, the lure of Turkey’s football cauldrons – all are on the table. The next move will define the late prime of one of the era’s most devastating forwards.
Salah has already left one era behind at Anfield. The only question now is where he chooses to start the next.
