Morgan Gibbs-White Called Up to England Squad, Replacing Cole Palmer
Morgan Gibbs-White has been summoned to join Thomas Tuchel’s England squad as a substitute for Cole Palmer, who is stepping down due to load management concerns.
The Athletic confirmed the Nottingham Forest midfielder’s inclusion after Palmer's withdrawal was made official on Monday.
Gibbs-White, aged 26, had been enjoying a family break in Dubai following Nottingham Forest’s 1-0 loss to Coventry City in the Premier League on Saturday. He has now returned to England and will link up with Tuchel’s team ahead of the Nations League fixtures.
Despite a promising start to the season, Gibbs-White was left out of Tuchel’s initial 27-man selection. Last season, he netted 15 Premier League goals and holds six caps for England since his senior debut in September 2024.
Palmer Withdraws After Notable Chelsea Performances
Palmer pulled out after scoring four goals and assisting twice in seven appearances for Chelsea this term. He played the full match in Friday’s 3-0 defeat by Brentford.
England’s Nations League campaign kicks off against world champions Spain at Wembley this Saturday, followed by matches against Czechia and Croatia during the extended international window.
