Mykhailo Mudryk Faces Extended Absence Due to Ankle Injury

Mykhailo Mudryk to Miss Several Weeks with Ankle Injury

Tottenham Hotspur’s loan signing, Mykhailo Mudryk, will be sidelined for an extended period after sustaining an ankle injury during training. The winger, who joined Spurs on loan from Chelsea, is expected to miss games until after the upcoming international break in October.

Mudryk's transfer was quite unexpected. Originally a £100 million signing for Chelsea three years ago, his Premier League debut season was disappointing, and he then faced a 20-month doping ban that was later overturned. This past weekend marked his first competitive appearance in almost two years when he came off the bench in Tottenham’s goalless draw against Nottingham Forest.

Given the long time away from competitive football, some time to regain match fitness was anticipated, so his injury, while unfortunate, isn't entirely surprising. He will definitely miss the matches against Everton, the Carabao Cup clash with Liverpool, and the Premier League fixture versus Aston Villa, at the very least. Even when fit, Mudryk still needs to rebuild his conditioning before making a significant impact.

The initial reaction to Mudryk joining Spurs was mixed, but it seemed like a low-risk move with some potential upside. His previous experience under coach Roberto De Zerbi at Shakhtar Donetsk offered some hope. Unfortunately, this injury delays any chance of seeing what he can bring to the team.

Update: Journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported the injury is more severe than initially thought, with Mudryk now facing a 6 to 8 week recovery period.
