Mykhailo Mudryk Speaks Out After Tottenham Debut as Roberto De Zerbi Raises Fitness Concerns

Mykhailo Mudryk Shares Joy Following Tottenham Debut

Mykhailo Mudryk finally returned to competitive football on Saturday, marking his debut for Tottenham Hotspur against Nottingham Forest. After a long suspension that sidelined him since November 2024, the winger appeared as a substitute in the 74th minute of the match at The City Ground, which ended in a 0-0 draw. Mudryk, who joined Spurs on loan from Chelsea during the transfer deadline, quickly took to social media to express his excitement: "No feeling better to be back on the pitch. First minutes in new colours. Thanks for support," he wrote on Instagram.

De Zerbi Highlights Need for Physical Progress

Despite the encouraging signs during Mudryk's brief appearance, Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi emphasized that the player is not yet ready to become a regular starter. Speaking after the game, De Zerbi said Mudryk still needs time and hard work to reach peak fitness. "He's not ready yet. He’s working to reach the best physical condition. He needs time, he needs work," De Zerbi stated, pointing out the high physical standards required in the team's tactical system.

Competition for Places Remains Fierce

The Tottenham boss also mentioned the stiff competition for attacking roles, particularly on the left wing where Mudryk plays. He referred to Mathys Tel as another option but noted both players have areas to improve. "In that position, we have Mathys Tel, big potential. But also Mathys takes too many wrong decisions, and Mudryk. So, two big players, two big potential players. But if we want to score, I think Marmoush has 15 goals. Solanke, the header for him, I consider a chance to score. It’s not a shot on goal. But how many shots did Nottingham have today?" De Zerbi added.

Upcoming Fixtures Will Test Mudryk's Fitness

Mudryk aims to build on his late-game cameo and sharpen his form in training ahead of a packed schedule. Tottenham face Everton in the Premier League on September 12, followed by a tough EFL Cup Round of 16 clash at Anfield against Liverpool three days later. Spurs then host Aston Villa on September 19. Medical staff will need to manage Mudryk’s playing time carefully across this demanding week.
