Napoli Nears Deal for Costantino Favasuli After Medicals
Napoli are on the brink of securing one of Italy’s most highly rated young full-backs, with Costantino Favasuli in the city to complete his medical ahead of a move from Catanzaro.
The 22-year-old arrived at Rome’s Villa Stuart clinic on Monday morning, greeted by a small group of Napoli supporters who had made the trip to welcome what they hope will be the club’s next long-term full-back. The deal is structured as a paid loan with a built-in future: Napoli will hand Catanzaro €1 million for a one-season loan, with an obligation to buy set at around €6 million.
It is a significant step up for Favasuli, who only last season was terrorising flanks in Serie B. Lining up primarily as a right-back but comfortable on the left, he produced two goals and seven assists across 36 appearances, driving Catanzaro all the way to the Serie B play-off final. That campaign pushed him firmly onto the radar of top-flight clubs and underlined why many in Italy view him as one of the standout young left-backs in the country, despite his frequent use on the opposite side.
His rise has not been confined to club level. In June, Favasuli made his senior debut for Italy under caretaker coach Silvio Baldini, featuring in both friendlies against Greece and Luxembourg. Those caps, modest as they may seem now, add another layer of intrigue to Napoli’s investment: this is not just a prospect, but a player already trusted, however briefly, at international level.
If the final details go through as expected after his medical, Napoli will be betting €7 million on Favasuli’s blend of versatility, energy and end-product. The question now is simple: can a full-back forged in Serie B and fast-tracked by the Azzurri carve out a starting role in a Napoli side desperate to refresh its edges?
