Napoli Pursue Gabriel Jesus: High-Stakes Transfer Tetris

Napoli have set their sights firmly on Gabriel Jesus – but landing the Arsenal forward is turning into a high‑stakes game of “transfer Tetris”.

The Serie A club, as reported by TuttoMercatoweb, view the 29-year-old Brazilian as the ideal piece to reshape their attack under Massimiliano Allegri. He is not just an option. He is a priority.

Napoli clear the decks

To get him, Napoli first had to clear space in a squad already straining at the seams and a wage bill that left little room for manoeuvre. The decisive move has now been made.

Romelu Lukaku, frozen out and surplus to requirements, has completed a permanent switch to Fenerbahce in a deal worth a reported €6 million (£5.1m). That exit does more than tidy up the depth chart. It carves out vital room in Napoli’s salary structure and gives the club the financial oxygen to seriously pursue Jesus without flirting with financial rule breaches.

More outgoings could follow. The potential departure of Lorenzo Lucca is also on the table and would further ease the path towards a sizeable investment in a new No 9.

With Allegri intent on radically reshaping his tactical options for the new campaign, the board know the groundwork had to be done before any marquee arrival. Now, after Lukaku’s move to Turkey, the pieces finally look aligned.

A visit that set tongues wagging

The intrigue ramped up at Castel di Sangro.

Jesus’ agent, Giovanni Branchini, was spotted at Napoli’s pre-season training camp, his presence instantly igniting speculation. Branchini insisted he was only there to visit Allegri, but in the middle of a summer window and with Napoli actively hunting a striker, such a visit was never going to slip under the radar.

Behind the scenes, Napoli are now described as being in a strong position to accelerate talks. The funds are there. The need is obvious. The target is clear.

Arsenal ready to cash in

On Arsenal’s side, the stance is straightforward. They are prepared to sell.

With Jesus entering the final 12 months of his contract at the Emirates Stadium and sitting among the club’s top earners, the North London side are keen to avoid losing him for nothing next year. TuttoMercatoweb report that Arsenal are looking for around €20m (£17m) for the former Manchester City forward – a reasonable fee in today’s market for a player of his pedigree, but also a clear signal they are ready to move on.

Injuries have repeatedly disrupted Jesus’ rhythm over the past year, and the knock-on effect has been brutal for his status in Mikel Arteta’s plans. He has slipped down the pecking order, now firmly behind Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres in the battle for starting minutes up front.

Arsenal want to trim their wage bill as Arteta looks to strengthen other areas of the squad. Offloading a high earner who no longer starts every week fits that strategy perfectly. For now, they are waiting for a formal offer.

Jesus open to Napoli switch

Crucially for Napoli, Jesus is not resisting the idea. Quite the opposite.

According to TuttoMercatoweb, the Brazilian is entirely open to the prospect of moving to Naples and working under Allegri. The report even suggests he would be willing to take a pay cut from his substantial £265,000-a-week salary to make the deal happen smoothly.

That kind of willingness changes the tone of a negotiation. It turns a speculative chase into a realistic operation.

Napoli, armed with the financial breathing room created by Lukaku’s exit and potentially more departures to come, now have the capacity to move quickly if they decide to meet Arsenal’s asking price.

A new partnership in the making?

If the two clubs can reach an agreement in short order, the next steps are already mapped out.

Jesus would travel to Italy to undergo his medical and complete the formalities. From there, Allegri would finally get the forward he has been pushing for – and with him, the chance to build a brand-new strike partnership.

The plan is clear: Jesus leading the line alongside Rasmus Hojlund, a blend of experience and energy designed to spearhead Napoli’s new era.

The pieces are on the table. Napoli have cleared the board. Now it comes down to one decision: do they push the button on a €20m move that could redefine their attack for the season ahead?
