Notts County Sign Ishe Samuels-Smith on Loan from Chelsea

Notts County have turned to Chelsea to strengthen their left flank, bringing in Ishe Samuels-Smith on a season-long loan as they prepare for life back in League One.

The 20-year-old, comfortable in multiple roles down the left side of defence, arrives at Meadow Lane with the Magpies returning to the third tier for the first time since the 2014-15 campaign. It’s a step up in level and expectation – and a clear sign that County want energy and versatility in key areas of the pitch.

Samuels-Smith spent last season at Swansea City, where he made six Championship appearances after re-signing for Chelsea on a permanent deal from Strasbourg. Those minutes in a demanding division, even in a limited sample, add a layer of experience that Notts County will expect to tap into quickly.

There is pedigree too. The defender has been capped by England at Under-20 level, underlining the regard in which he is held within the national setup.

“Ishe is a talented young player who is capable of contributing in both attacking and defensive phases,” said County director of football Richard Montague, speaking to the club’s website.

For a club stepping back into League One after nearly a decade away, this is the kind of calculated, modern loan move that can tilt tight games. Now it’s over to Samuels-Smith to turn potential into presence on a new stage.
