Oliver Antman's Move to Anderlecht: A Fresh Start in Belgium

Oliver Antman’s brief Rangers chapter is almost over. Belgium is calling, and RSC Anderlecht are ready to give the Finnish winger the reset his career badly needs.

Derek McInnes confirmed on Wednesday that Antman has already travelled to Belgium to put the final touches on the move. The Rangers manager did not dress it up.

“An agreement has been reached, and Oliver has travelled to finalise everything. I am quite sure that everything will go well for him,” he told the Scottish media.

For Rangers, it draws a line under a signing that never quite caught fire. For Anderlecht, it is a calculated bet on a player whose numbers in the Netherlands last season screamed potential.

Antman arrived at Ibrox on the back of a standout 2024–25 campaign with Go Ahead Eagles. In Deventer he was electric: six league goals, a division-best 16 assists, and four appearances in a KNVB Cup run that ended with silverware. At £3.5 million, Rangers believed they were buying a creator ready to step straight into the spotlight.

The script never followed.

Glasgow can be unforgiving for an attacker still finding his feet. Antman struggled to settle, never quite syncing with the rhythm of the team or the relentlessness of expectation. Across 28 appearances in all competitions, he managed just one goal and five assists. Flashes of his Eredivisie form appeared in moments, not stretches. The crowd saw the hints; they never saw the sustained version.

Now comes the exit route. Anderlecht are set to pay just over five million euros for the 24-year-old, a fee that softens the blow for Rangers and underlines the Belgian club’s belief that his Dutch form was no mirage. For Antman, it is a chance to step out of the glare, without stepping down in ambition.

In Belgium, he will not be the player tasked with instantly transforming a title race, but he will be expected to make things happen between the lines, to rediscover the swagger that turned him into the Eredivisie’s leading provider. If he finds that version of himself again, this move will look less like an escape from Ibrox and more like a launchpad.
