According to L'Equipe, Monaco decided to end Pogba’s contract after he collapsed in pain from a left thigh injury during a small-sided training game at St George’s Park on Tuesday. This injury confirmed what the club had already considered weeks earlier. Pogba was informed that his two-year deal would be cut short and was given permission to search for a new team. Negotiations over his financial settlement are expected next, with Pogba reportedly earning less than £44,000 per week.

A Troubled Comeback

Pogba returned to football in March 2025 after his doping ban was shortened on appeal, signing with Monaco to revive his career following a mutual parting with Juventus. Yet, his time in Ligue 1 has been marred by repeated fitness problems. Monaco viewed the pre-season as a key time to evaluate his condition, but Pogba only featured for 45 minutes in a 5-2 friendly win against Saint-Priest on July 18. Then a right knee issue sidelined him for four matches before the recent thigh injury. He had just resumed full training last Friday, aiming to continue his comeback.

Club Leadership Comments

The Monaco management showed respect in handling Pogba’s situation but couldn’t hide their disappointment. General manager Thiago Scuro addressed the matter publicly, acknowledging the project didn’t pan out as hoped. He said, "The truth is that the project (with Pogba) did not work well last season. When we started it, the expectations we had were very different. Is he likely to leave? Yes, of course."

Pogba had once spoken of relief when signing, calling it his second chance after a difficult period. He told Daily Mail Sport, "We went through hell. A time of darkness. But this is my second chance, I have to use it." Sadly, that opportunity now seems closed.

An MRI scheduled for Tuesday afternoon will clarify the severity of Pogba’s thigh injury. Once his exit from Monaco is official, he will face a critical decision about his future.
