Pedro Neto Commends Portugal's Defensive Strength in Nations League Win Over Norway
Pedro Neto has applauded Portugal's defensive toughness following their vital 2-1 triumph against Norway in the UEFA Nations League. Goals from Joao Felix and Goncalo Ramos secured the win on Norwegian soil, pushing Portugal three points clear atop Group A4.
Portugal's Resilience Under Jorge Jesus Continues
The victory at Ullevaal Stadium marked Portugal’s second straight win under coach Jorge Jesus, reinforcing their position as group leaders. Neto took pride in the team's collective defensive effort, emphasizing the need for unwavering focus to handle Norway's physical game from start to finish.
Handling Intense Pressure From Norway
Speaking with Sport TV, Neto described the match as challenging due to Norway's aggressive style and high pressing. He noted that Portugal managed to resist intense pressure, especially during the closing moments of the first half when Norway seemed to gain some control.
"It was a very tough match against a team with a lot of quality, top-class players and high intensity," Neto said. "They pressed very high up the pitch with great intensity and we did well. At times, they managed to take control a little more - perhaps towards the end of the first half - but we were resilient."
Quick Response After Haaland's Equaliser
After Erling Haaland brought Norway back level early in the second half, Portugal responded swiftly. Just three minutes later, Goncalo Ramos scored to restore the lead, showcasing Portugal’s mental strength in tough situations.
"It’s one of the best ways to react to [conceding], Goncalo Ramos goal came straight after that. The team, once again, managed to stay in the game and defended well," Neto explained. "We were very solid defensively. Perhaps, at some point, we could have controlled the game a little more when we had the ball, but that’s part of it. It’s not easy to come here and control a game against a team playing with such intensity. Both defensively and offensively, we put in a good performance."
Looking Ahead to Denmark Clash
With this result, Portugal aims to keep their unbeaten run intact as they prepare to face Denmark in their final Group A4 fixture of the international window. Meanwhile, Norway will look to recover quickly from this narrow loss when they visit Wales later this week.
