Luis Enrique's Paris Saint-Germain have cemented their reputation as one of the elite clubs in the Champions League by winning back-to-back titles. Now, they are aiming to pull off the rare feat of winning three in a row.

PSG's Rise Under Luis Enrique

Since Luis Enrique took over in 2023, PSG transformed from European also-rans into genuine contenders. They reached the semifinals in his debut season and surged forward after Kylian Mbappe's departure in 2024.

Breaking free from reliance on one or two stars, PSG overwhelmed Europe and captured their first Champions League crown in 2025, thrashing Inter Milan 5-0 in the final. They followed up by narrowly defeating Premier League champions Arsenal on penalties in last season's final held in Budapest. This made them only the second club to retain the trophy since the Champions League's modern era began in 1992.

The Challenge of a Three-Peat

Winning three consecutive Champions League titles is an extraordinary challenge. Legendary teams like Real Madrid under Zinedine Zidane (2016-2018), Johan Cruyff's Ajax, Franz Beckenbauer's Bayern Munich, and Alfredo Di Stefano's Real Madrid in the 1950s and 60s achieved this rare success. Today's Champions League demands more than ever, with PSG playing 17 matches per title in recent seasons due to the new format. The team’s high-paced attack, led by Ousmane Dembele and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, supported by full-backs Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes, strikes fear into opponents. PSG rarely sell star players, but recently parted ways with Bradley Barcola, who moved to Liverpool for a large fee. Other squad members like Goncalo Ramos, Lee Kang-in, and Ibrahim Mbaye were also sold.

New faces include Maghnes Akliouche, a French World Cup participant, and Ferran Torres, Spain's match-winner in North America. Torres has previous experience under Luis Enrique, who he described as a "footballing father" after signing from Barcelona.

Luis Enrique’s Commitment

Now the clear leader, Luis Enrique extended his contract through 2030. He admitted this is the first time he has stayed at a club for four years and said his motivation is stronger than ever.

"It is the first time I have stayed four years at the same club, and I am more motivated than I was in my first year," said Luis Enrique. "I have lost none of my hunger."

That determination signals tough times ahead for any club hoping to stop PSG’s pursuit of an unprecedented three-peat.
