At UFC Vegas 121, Raul Rosas Jr. pulled off a stunning fifth-round knockout over veteran Raoni Barcelos, but the victory was overshadowed by a frightening finish. Barcelos appeared to lose consciousness during a takedown before hitting the mat and was immediately stretchered out of the Octagon and rushed to the hospital. “For a second, I didn’t know if he died, to be honest,” Rosas told Uncrowned. “But when I calmed down a bit and saw he was breathing, I felt more peaceful. I just prayed he’d wake up and get back to his family.”
The scary moment cast a shadow over what was otherwise an impressive win that extended Rosas' UFC streak to six victories. He acknowledged the mixed emotions:
“It was scary, but yes, I was happy with my performance. He’ll probably be sad about the loss, but I’m sure he’s happy about the fight. We both gave it everything that night.”

“From my side, I didn’t hit his head,” Rosas said. “You can see it in the video, and I watched the replay. I want to know if he remembers anything. He knows better than anyone.”
Rosas noted that Barcelos seemed exhausted after the fourth round, when he had almost choked him out and was dominant. Rosas rested briefly on the floor during that round while Barcelos worked hard from his back. This might explain the physical collapse in the final round.

Just before the takedown that ended the fight, Rosas landed a light punch to Barcelos’ head. His corner had advised going for a takedown, which Rosas executed, noticing Barcelos’ weakness immediately.
“When I got hold of him, he felt so weak—like his body was done. I got a rush of energy going for the legs and felt I already won. I took him down and knew I would finish it there.”
Rosas admitted it was unfortunate Barcelos was unconscious when he hit the ground, suspecting Barcelos might have already been out earlier in the sequence.

“I thought I was losing going into the fifth,” Rosas said. “Round 1 I thought I won, Round 2 was close, and 3 and 4 were his. So it could have been 2-2, but the fourth was definitely his. I knew if it went to the judges, he’d probably take it. That’s why I had to finish it in the fifth. I didn’t want to doubt the outcome.”

This win improves Rosas’ record to 13-1 overall and 7-1 inside the UFC. Joining the promotion at just 18 years old in late 2018, he has now claimed two victories over ranked opponents, marking him as a rising contender in the bantamweight division.
