Gonzalo García: Big Money, Open Door
The headline deal is Gonzalo García’s move to Fulham. The agreement will bring in 40 million euros fixed, plus a further two million in variables, with the English club acquiring 70% of his sporting rights.
Crucially, this is not a goodbye with a slammed door. Both the player and Real Madrid see it as a pause rather than a break. Gonzalo goes now, but with a clear idea: come back one day as a finished product, not a prospect.
Madrid are treating it as the perfect modern operation. They cash in heavily today, they let his talent develop in the Premier League, and they still keep a strong grip on his future. The club retain 30% of his rights and a right of first refusal on any future transfer. Palacios on the Same Route, Different Numbers
César Palacios is following a similar path, though on a smaller financial scale. His move to Fulham is not as advanced as Gonzalo’s, but unless something dramatic happens, he will be heading to London as well. The deal is moving at its own rhythm, but nobody around the negotiation doubts the outcome.
The figures tell the difference in status. Palacios’s transfer is expected to land between 8 and 10 million euros, variables included. Once again, Real Madrid will keep a percentage of his rights and secure a future right of first refusal. Another talent leaves, another thread remains tied to Valdebebas.
A Summer of Sales: The 200 Million Chase
Gonzalo’s fee drops into a pot that has been filling fast. Add his transfer to the eight other academy-related deals already completed this summer — Nico Paz, Víctor Muñoz, Mario Gila, Álvaro Rodríguez, Álex Jiménez, Fran García, Mario Martín and, most recently, Valdenías — and the total income hits 175.5 million euros.
If Palacios signs on the dotted line, that figure could rise to 185.5 million euros. A staggering number for players who, for the most part, have barely scratched the surface of the first team.
And Madrid are not done counting.
Jacobo Ortega: Millions Without a Minute
Next in line is Jacobo Ortega. He has not played a single minute for the first team, yet he stands on the verge of a move that underlines just how valuable the Madrid academy brand has become on the European market.
According to “AS”, Ortega is close to joining Strasbourg for 8 million euros in exchange for 50% of his rights. Half the player, full impact on the balance sheet.
If that deal goes through, total revenue from these academy exits climbs to 193.5 million euros. For a defender who has not debuted with the senior side, it is a remarkable testament to the trust other clubs place in Madrid’s production line.
Fran González and the Final Push
There is still more on the table. Real Madrid are also negotiating the sale of Fran González, the third-choice goalkeeper and a Spain under-21 international, to Sevilla.
Talks have hit a bump. The clubs are not fully aligned on the fee or some of the sporting conditions. Even so, the mood around the deal is optimistic. The belief is that, sooner rather than later, an agreement will be found.
If Ortega and Fran González both move, Madrid will be within touching distance of breaking the 200 million euro barrier from academy player sales in a single summer. A number that would have sounded absurd a few years ago now looks entirely realistic.
