Reiss Nelson's Potential Exit from Arsenal to West Ham

Arsenal are in active talks with West Ham over a move for Reiss Nelson, with the winger’s Emirates career edging towards its conclusion.

The 26-year-old has spent the last two seasons living life on loan, first at Brentford and then at Fulham, and returned to north London this summer only to find there is no place for him in Mikel Arteta’s plans. Arsenal, conscious he has entered the final year of his contract, are now working to move him on.

West Ham have made their move. The Championship side have approached the Gunners to explore a deal as they look to bulk up their squad for a promotion charge. Arsenal, for their part, are understood to be enthusiastic about the prospect of Nelson heading to east London and have given encouragement to the Hammers during early discussions.

The talks between the clubs are focused on the structure and conditions of a potential transfer. Arsenal would prefer a permanent sale and view this window as the cleanest moment to cash in, but they have also received enquiries about another loan. If they do sanction a temporary move, the Gunners hold an option to extend Nelson’s contract by 12 months to protect his value.

One key piece is missing: the player’s green light. Personal terms have not yet been discussed and Nelson is still weighing up his options, with the question lingering over whether he is prepared to drop into the Championship at this stage of his career.

Interest is not limited to England. A Portuguese club, now managed by Marco Silva – the coach who brought Nelson to Fulham two seasons ago – are also in the frame, adding a familiar face and a different pathway to the mix as the winger considers his next step.

Nelson is not the only potential departure at Arsenal as the window moves towards its sharp end. The club are open to selling Gabriel Jesus and Fabio Vieira if suitable offers arrive. Arsenal want up to £20million for Jesus, who has been linked with Napoli, although no formal approach has been received from the Italian side so far.

There is movement in the goalkeeping department too. Arsenal are looking to secure a loan move for Tommy Setford, aiming to find him regular first-team football this season rather than another year on the fringes.

For Nelson, the picture is clear enough. Arsenal are ready to move on. West Ham are at the table. The next decision belongs to the player – stay in the Premier League orbit, or gamble on a step down now for the promise of a bigger stage later.
