Roberto De Zerbi Sets 10-Goal Target for Savio After Stellar Tottenham Debut

Roberto De Zerbi has challenged his new signing, Savio, to reach double-digit goals after an impressive debut in Tottenham's 5-1 Carabao Cup win over Charlton Athletic. The £85 million Brazilian winger came off the bench and scored within minutes, but De Zerbi insists he must deliver consistent scoring to truly stand out.

Spurs Dominate Charlton

Tottenham had already taken control with goals from Mikey Moore, Dominic Solanke, and Kevin Danso before Savio entered the match in the 71st minute. Only 11 minutes later, Savio cut inside and fired a low, precise shot into the bottom corner, marking a dream debut. He almost scored again, but his second effort was credited as an own goal by Ben Davies after a deflection.

De Zerbi Demands More Goals

The manager welcomed Savio’s immediate impact but emphasized the need for more goals from the winger to boost Tottenham’s attack. De Zerbi said:

"Yes, it was a perfect day for him. His biggest step is to increase his goal tally. With his qualities, he’s one of the best wingers, but the best wingers score many goals. I spoke with him recently, and we set a target of 10 to 12 goals because we need those goals from our wingers. Last season, we struggled because the number of goals wasn’t enough to compete beyond a certain level."

Pressure From Big Money Move

The hefty £85 million fee Tottenham paid Manchester City for Savio adds extra expectations. In his time at City, he notched seven goals and 13 assists in 84 appearances across all competitions. Tottenham's dominant victory continues their strong home form in the Carabao Cup, having won seven of their last eight games in North London.

Upcoming Fixtures

This win sets up an exciting third-round Carabao Cup clash against Liverpool, offering a chance for revenge after Spurs' semi-final exit last season. Before facing Liverpool, Tottenham will focus on their Premier League match against Newcastle United this weekend, where maintaining attacking momentum is key to handling a tough schedule ahead.
