Roma Nears €50m Deal for Rodrigo Mora After Breakthrough

For weeks, Roma and FC Porto circled each other over Rodrigo Mora. The numbers were clear, the structure was not. Now, at last, the two clubs have found common ground on a deal that could reach €50m.

The new agreement, confirmed by multiple sources in Italy and Portugal, rips up the loan formula that had stalled everything. Roma are now ready to buy 50 per cent of Mora’s rights immediately for €25m, with an option to take full control for another €25m at the end of the season.

That option is the key. If Roma trigger it, Porto walk away with the full €50m they always targeted. If they don’t, Porto will keep their remaining 50 per cent and bank half of any future transfer fee when Mora is eventually sold on.

It marks a sharp turn from the structure that brought negotiations to a standstill. The clubs had been on the brink of a different agreement: a €10m paid loan with a €40m option to buy, which would have turned into an obligation under certain conditions.

That’s where everything jammed. Porto wanted those conditions to be so soft they were essentially a guarantee. Roma pushed back, trying to tie the obligation to major sporting milestones such as Champions League qualification or even a Scudetto triumph. The gap proved too wide, and talks froze.

This revised 50-50 ownership model has unlocked the stalemate. Roma secure Mora now, at a fixed cost and without a guaranteed second instalment. Porto protect the valuation they set, either through the full €50m or a slice of any future sale.

Time matters here. Both clubs are now accelerating the final details and aiming to close the deal within days. Mora is not in coach Francesco Farioli’s plans at Porto, and the Portuguese side want clarity before the season settles into its rhythm.

Roma, for their part, are edging towards a high-stakes investment. Half now, the rest later if Mora becomes the player they believe he can be. The bet is big. The upside could be bigger.
