Rui Hachimura Switches Lakers Fans to Clippers in Unusual Jersey Swap

Rui Hachimura has left the Los Angeles Lakers behind, and he seems eager for his followers to follow suit. On his Instagram @blacksamurai, a video surfaced showing Hachimura handing over a Clippers jersey to a young fan who was initially sporting his No. 28 Lakers jersey. The forward encouraged the boy to trade it for the new team colors.

"This one looks way cooler," Hachimura remarked about the Clippers jersey. "Everyone, please go buy the Clippers jersey."

New Chapter with the Clippers

Hachimura inked a two-year contract worth $28 million with the Clippers in July after spending parts of four seasons with the Lakers. During the 2025-26 season, he averaged 11.5 points and 3.3 rebounds per game while shooting an impressive 51.4% overall and 44.3% from beyond the arc.

Clippers Face Challenges Amid Changes

Joining the Clippers comes at a difficult time. The franchise has been penalized with the loss of five first-round draft picks and a $30 million fine. Additionally, owner Steve Ballmer and basketball operations president Lawrence Frank are facing suspensions. Historically overshadowed by the Lakers, this period is pivotal for the Clippers to reconnect with their fans after a summer filled with controversy.

At media day, interim president Trent Redden issued a public apology, saying,

"Our fans deserve to hear from us before this, and for that we’re sorry. We’ve been listening to the thoughts, concerns, and emotions of our fan base. They mean everything to us. We hope to fulfill our promises, build trust, and move forward through this time."

Redden added, "This franchise often does its best work with its back against the wall. We hope to represent our fans the same way we always have in dark times—by coming out fighting."

The Clippers aim to hold onto their supporters, but it’s clear Hachimura wants to attract some Lakers fans as well. His energetic exchange and fresh start might just make that happen as the 2026-27 season approaches.
