Shubman Gill's Leadership Record Across All Cricket Formats

Shubman Gill has quickly established himself as a significant leader in Indian cricket. Since becoming Test captain in 2025, he has guided India through several notable series, including a crucial comeback in England and wins against West Indies, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka.

India's 165-run win in the first Test versus Sri Lanka in Galle boosted his Test captaincy record to six wins out of 10 matches. Yet, the second match ended in a draw, preventing a clean sweep and slightly lowering his win percentage.

At 26 years old, Gill has captained India in Tests, ODIs, T20Is, and the IPL. He's also been at the helm of the Gujarat Titans since the 2024 IPL season, leading them to playoff spots in both 2025 and 2026.

T20I Captaincy Record

  • Matches Captained: 5
  • Wins: 4
  • Losses: 1
  • No Result / Tied: 0
  • Win Percentage: 80.00%

Gill took charge during the 2024 T20I series against Zimbabwe, delivering four wins from five matches.

IPL Captaincy Record

  • Matches Captained: 43
  • Wins: 24
  • Losses: 17
  • No Result / Tied: 0
  • Win Percentage: 55.81%

He replaced Hardik Pandya as Gujarat Titans' captain in 2024, steering the team through 43 games over two seasons with solid results, though weather interruptions caused a couple of no-results.

ODI Captaincy Record

  • Matches Captained: 12
  • Wins: 7
  • Losses: 5
  • No Result / Tied: 0
  • Win Percentage: 58.3%

Gill began leading the ODI side in October 2025 during the Australia tour, which ended in a 2-1 series loss. After some setbacks, including another series defeat against New Zealand in early 2026, he finally secured his first ODI series victory against Afghanistan in June 2026. The July 2026 series against England saw a promising start but ended with England clinching the series.

Test Captaincy Record

  • Matches Captained: 11
  • Wins: 6
  • Losses: 3
  • No Result / Tied: 2
  • Win Percentage: 54.55%

Gill was named Test captain after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired from the format. His first challenge was a drawn five-Test series (2-2) against England. Subsequently, he led India to home victories over West Indies and an overseas series win in Afghanistan. The Galle Test win against Sri Lanka was particularly commanding, with India setting strong innings totals and securing a 165-run victory, marking his sixth Test win as skipper. The following draw in Colombo dropped his overall win ratio slightly.
