Simeone's Hard Line on Alvarez as Transfer Storm Brews
Diego Simeone has drawn a hard line to start the new LaLiga season.
The Atletico Madrid manager confirmed that Julian Alvarez will be dropped to the bench for Wednesday’s opener, as the forward’s future hangs over the club. Alvarez is pushing to join Barcelona this summer, and reports in Spain suggest the Catalan side are now his most likely destination despite strong interest from Premier League champions Arsenal.
Atletico, though, are digging in. CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin has made the club’s stance brutally clear, insisting they would not even accept €200m for the former Manchester City striker. For now, Simeone begins the campaign with his star forward sidelined and a transfer storm raging in the background.
City face rising costs in the market
Manchester City’s midfield rebuild is already getting expensive.
The champions remain keen on Enzo Fernandez after missing Chelsea’s Friday deadline for offers. That delay has a price. City now expect to pay significantly more than the £120m Chelsea were demanding last week if they want to prise the Argentina international away from Stamford Bridge.
City are also preparing a huge outlay on the next generation. They are set to sign 18-year-old midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi for £85m, a staggering fee for a teenager, after selling Ballon d’Or winner Rodri to Barcelona in a deal worth up to £65m. One era ends, another begins, but at a serious cost.
United shut the door on Fernandes approach
Manchester United, by contrast, are refusing to budge.
Galatasaray have launched an audacious move for club captain Bruno Fernandes, determined to land a marquee name this summer. The Turkish side are reportedly ready to put together a financial package that would double the 31-year-old’s salary.
United’s response is blunt: Fernandes is not for sale. No negotiation, no softening of the stance. Their captain stays.
Liverpool rethink as PSG duo wait
Liverpool’s forward planning has taken another twist.
The club had reportedly agreed terms with Paris Saint-Germain youngster Ibrahim Mbaye, but fresh rumours now indicate they are stepping back from a move for the 18-year-old. Their interest in his teammate Bradley Barcola, though, remains firmly alive.
Both Mbaye and France international Barcola were left out of PSG’s squad for the French Super Cup on Sunday, underlining the uncertainty around their futures. The European champions were set to demand £145m for Barcola, who is also on Arsenal’s radar, but Liverpool are ready to play the long game, hoping patience can drag that price down.
The window is still open. The numbers are rising. And some of Europe’s biggest clubs are about to find out how far they are really prepared to go.
