Tariq Lamptey Set to Leave Fiorentina After Injury Struggles

Tariq Lamptey’s troubled Fiorentina spell is set to end almost as quickly as it began.

According to reports in Italy, the Serie A club are close to agreeing a mutual termination of the Ghana international’s contract, drawing a line under a move that never really had the chance to breathe.

Lamptey arrived in Florence in the summer, leaving Brighton and Hove Albion with just a year left on his deal in England. After coming through at Chelsea and then breaking through at Brighton, Italy was supposed to be the fresh start: a three-year contract, a new league, and a stage to relaunch a career repeatedly interrupted by injury.

It has gone the other way.

Persistent fitness problems followed him to Tuscany and never loosened their grip. Lamptey managed only two appearances in a Fiorentina shirt. His debut came off the bench at home against Napoli, a match that ended in defeat and offered only a brief glimpse of his trademark acceleration down the flank.

The real blow landed in late September.

Handed his first start against Como, Lamptey lasted just 21 minutes before rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament. The optimism around his signing evaporated in an instant, replaced by the familiar shadow of a long-term layoff.

La Gazzetta dello Sport report that Fiorentina and the 25-year-old are now close to finalising a mutual exit, cutting short a contract that was meant to run for three seasons but has effectively been reduced to a few scattered minutes.

If the agreement is completed, Lamptey will become a free agent at the end of a bruising 2025/26 campaign, left to confront the same question that has hovered over his career for years: can his body ever let his talent breathe again?
