Thomas Muller Extends Contract with Vancouver Whitecaps Through 2027 MLS Sprint Season

Thomas Muller, the German veteran forward, has agreed to extend his contract with the Vancouver Whitecaps, securing his presence at the club until June 2027. The 37-year-old, who initially joined the MLS side on a free transfer in summer 2025, had been facing the expiration of his previous deal this December but has now decided to prolong his stay in Canada.

Key Role in Vancouver's Attack

The official announcement confirms that Muller will continue as a central figure in Vancouver’s offensive lineup through the upcoming Sprint Season. Since arriving from Bayern Munich, he quickly became an essential player for the team, impressing fans and teammates alike with his skill and leadership.

Muller's Thoughts on Staying in Vancouver

Expressing satisfaction with his decision on the club’s website, Muller praised the welcoming atmosphere he found in British Columbia and the bond he's formed within the squad. He stated:

“I’ve really enjoyed my time here from the beginning. Vancouver has been very open and welcoming to me, and I’ve felt that same spirit throughout the club.”

He also spoke about the club’s style of play:

“We have an offensive, possession-based style that is fun to play and fun to watch, and you can really feel the excitement around the team and the city right now. The fans are enjoying it, and I think everyone wants to be part of what we are building.”

Muller added that he still finds joy in playing every week and feels physically strong, looking forward to what the team can achieve together in the current year and next spring’s Sprint Season.

Impactful Debut Season

During his first season with the Whitecaps, Muller made an immediate impact. He helped the team win the Canadian Championship and reach their first-ever MLS Cup final, finishing runners-up to Inter Miami. His individual stats across all competitions include 19 goals and 12 assists in 45 appearances, leading the club’s league statistics with 16 goals and 11 assists. This performance earned him a spot in this year’s MLS All-Star squad.

Looking Ahead: Playoff Aspirations

With Muller’s future secured, Vancouver is focused on maintaining their momentum as they prepare to face Chicago Fire on October 6. Coach Jesper Sorensen’s squad currently leads the Western Conference, boasting 50 points from 26 matches. The Whitecaps aim to secure the top seed heading into the playoffs, with Muller expected to remain a key contributor.
