Tottenham Targets Marmoush as Savinho Deal Nears Completion

Tottenham’s midfield rebuild is already eye-watering. Around £185m has gone on Mateus Fernandes from West Ham and Sandro Tonali from Newcastle. Roberto de Zerbi now wants the firepower to match – and the focus has turned firmly to Manchester City.

Talks for City forward Omar Marmoush are said to be “progressing positively”, with Spurs pushing to add the Egypt international to the expected arrival of Savinho.

Marmoush, a £59m signing from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2025, slipped down the pecking order at Etihad Stadium last season and is seen as an attainable option as City reshape their attack. At 25, he offers versatility across the front line and a proven eye for goal, but also represents another major financial commitment for Tottenham’s hierarchy.

Savinho deal in place

The headline move is already in motion. Spurs have agreed a £75m fee with Manchester City for Brazil winger Savinho, with a further £10m in add-ons taking the potential total to £85m.

The 22-year-old is due to undergo a medical before signing a long-term contract in north London, finally ending a pursuit that has stretched back more than a year. Tottenham tried to land him last summer, only for Savinho to choose to stay at City and fight for his place.

That decision brought limited reward. Under Pep Guardiola last season, Savinho managed just seven Premier League starts, his path blocked in a crowded attacking department. Now he is set to become a centrepiece of De Zerbi’s front line.

Can Spurs afford a third forward?

Tottenham also retain an interest in Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo, who can operate across the forward line and as a second striker. Yet the numbers are starting to bite.

With Fernandes, Tonali and the impending Savinho deal already on the books, it is unclear whether Spurs can realistically finance a move for both Marmoush and Gakpo on top. Any further attacking signing at this level is likely to require sales or creative structuring, and there is no indication yet that Liverpool are under pressure to cash in on the Netherlands international.

Elsewhere in the market

While Spurs circle City, other Premier League heavyweights are moving quickly.

Aston Villa have already lined up the departure of Ezri Konsa, who underwent a medical at Arsenal ahead of a move worth more than £50m. Villa are now trying to reinforce at the back, but their first attempt has been rebuffed. An offer worth around £18m plus add-ons for Southampton defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis has been rejected, with the south-coast club understood to be holding out for about £25m.

Harwood-Bellis joined Southampton in 2023, initially on loan, and has one England cap, earned in a 2024 Nations League match against Republic of Ireland. With Villa preparing for life without Konsa and the new season fast approaching, that negotiation has the feel of one that will run.

On the continent, Inter Milan have struck a £30m agreement with Liverpool for England midfielder Curtis Jones, while Tijjani Reijnders has completed a £52m move from Manchester City to Saudi Arabian side Al-Qadsiah, underlining City’s wider reshuffle.

Liverpool push for Minteh replacement

Liverpool’s own search for wide players is gathering pace after Mohamed Salah’s exit. A £50m bid for Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh has been rejected, with the Seagulls standing firm for now.

Minteh, 22, has produced 10 goals and nine assists in 73 appearances for Brighton since his £30m move from Newcastle in 2024. Primarily a right winger, he is currently sidelined with a leg injury sustained in a friendly against Roma earlier this month, but that has not cooled Liverpool’s interest.

Andoni Iraola has made strengthening his wide attacking options the priority for the remainder of the window. Liverpool are expected to keep testing the market, with Minteh one of several names under consideration as they try to replace Salah’s output and aura on the flanks.

Season countdown begins

All of this plays out against the backdrop of a new Premier League campaign that starts tonight, as defending champions Arsenal host newly promoted Coventry. The window is still open, the chequebooks are still out, and Tottenham are trying to muscle into the title conversation by raiding Manchester City’s forward line.

If Savinho walks through the door and Marmoush follows, De Zerbi will have the kind of attacking depth Spurs have lacked for years. The question now is simple: how far are Tottenham prepared to go, and how much more are they willing to spend, to finally turn promise into silverware?
