Trézéguet Faces New Hamstring Injury as Al-Riyadh Draw with Al-Khaleej
Trézéguet’s return was supposed to steady Al-Riyadh after a bruising 5-0 defeat to Al-Ahli. Instead, it brought a new worry for club and country.
The Egyptian winger, who had missed that heavy loss with a hamstring problem, went down early in the Gulf clash against Al-Khaleej and could not continue. The sight was all too familiar. The concern was immediate.
Saudi outlet Al-Riyadiah reported that the same hamstring issue forced his early exit. He is set to undergo medical tests and X-rays in the coming hours to determine the extent of the damage, how serious the recurrence is, and how long he will be out of both training and competitive action.
The timing is brutal. Trézéguet had been expected to join Egypt’s squad for the upcoming camp ahead of their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with matches against Angola and South Sudan scheduled for 25 and 29 September. His availability for those fixtures is now in real doubt.
This was Trézéguet’s sixth appearance of the season for Al-Riyadh across the Saudi Pro League and the King’s Cup. He has one league goal to his name and two assists so far, one in the league and one in the cup, underlining how quickly he had become a key part of their attacking plan.
On the night, Al-Riyadh at least emerged with something tangible. The result pushed them up to 5 points and twelfth place in the Saudi Roshn Pro League table. Al-Khaleej sit just behind them on 4 points in thirteenth.
Al-Riyadh now turn to Sunday’s trip to Al-Khaloud, carrying a point, a little more stability in the standings, and a big question: how long will they have to cope without their Egyptian star?
