Trezeguet Out for a Month Due to Hamstring Injury
Trezeguet sidelined for a month after hamstring tear, to miss Egypt duty
Al-Riyadh have been dealt a major setback – and so have Egypt. The Saudi club confirmed on Wednesday, via their official account on X, that Egyptian international Mahmoud Hassan "Trezeguet" has suffered a torn hamstring muscle and will be out for four weeks.
The winger went down early in Al-Riyadh's clash with Al-Khaleej on Monday in the sixth round of the Saudi Roshn League. He lasted just 13 minutes, leaving the pitch in tears as medical staff signalled that his night was over almost as soon as it had begun.
Scans later delivered the news everyone feared. Tests revealed a hamstring tear, forcing a change of plan for both club and country. Al-Riyadh confirmed that Trezeguet will return to Cairo to continue his rehabilitation under the supervision of Egypt's medical staff.
Impact on Egypt's Upcoming Matches
For Hossam Hassan, the timing could hardly be worse. Egypt’s upcoming camp is scheduled to start on 17 September, and Trezeguet is now expected to miss it entirely, ruling him out of the opening two matches of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Pharaohs begin their campaign at home, hosting Angola on Friday 25 September at Cairo Stadium, before flying to Juba to face South Sudan on Tuesday 29 September. Both games will now go ahead without one of Egypt’s most trusted attacking outlets.
A former Aston Villa winger, Trezeguet has long been one of the pillars of Egypt’s forward line, his international experience and big-game temperament making him a go-to option in decisive qualifiers and tournament matches.
Now, Egypt must improvise without him as the road to the 2027 AFCON begins under an early cloud.
