West Bromwich Albion Sign Midfielder Rabby Nzingoula from Strasbourg
West Bromwich Albion have turned again to the continent for their rebuild, sealing the signing of highly rated midfielder Rabby Nzingoula from Strasbourg.
The 20-year-old joins on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee, becoming the club’s seventh arrival of an increasingly assertive summer window. Matt Ingram, Conor Townsend, Nolan Galves, Felix Horn Myhre, Barney Stewart and Jimmy-Jay Morgan had already come through the door. Now Nzingoula adds a different profile: young, battle-tested and schooled in European competition.
He arrives with 15 first-team appearances for Strasbourg, experience that includes nights in the Europa Conference League, and loan spells at Montpellier and German side Nuremberg. For a player still only 20, that is a varied footballing education – Ligue 1, Bundesliga 2, and now the Championship.
And he knows exactly what he is walking into.
“From the games I have seen, it's clear to see it's a very good, physical and demanding division,” Nzingoula told the club’s website. “It's a really good league and a really tough one too. It has a lot of high intensity, and I think that fits perfectly with my style of play.”
That line will land well with supporters who have watched the Championship chew up technically gifted players who could not live with its pace or power. Nzingoula is not shying away from that reputation; he is embracing it.
What may be just as important as the league, though, is the man he will be playing under.
“There are a lot of players with talent here at the club and the head coach (James Morrison) has so much playing experience,” he said. “I know that he played over 300 games here and I know he was a very good midfielder, so I really believe he can help me and develop me into a much better player.”
Morrison’s presence gives this move a clear logic. A former West Brom midfielder of real pedigree, now tasked with moulding a young one who wants to run into the fire of Championship football rather than tiptoe around it.
Seven signings in, the pattern is emerging: energy, legs, and players with something to prove. Nzingoula fits that mould. The question now is how quickly he can turn promise and pedigree into influence in the heart of Albion’s midfield.
