Yan Diomande set to join PSG amid Premier League interest
Paris Saint-Germain are closing in on one of the most coveted signatures in Europe, and they are doing it with half the Premier League banging on the door.
Over the past week, representatives for Yan Diomande have fielded fresh approaches from Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City. Each time, the answer has been identical: the Ivorian winger remains committed to joining PSG.
PSG turn the screw
The race is not officially over. Diomande has not signed yet, and the English giants are not the type to walk away quietly from a talent of this scale. But the direction of travel is clear.
Sources indicate Diomande’s preference has not shifted despite renewed pressure from England. PSG are locked in on completing the deal, and club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has stepped in personally to drive negotiations with Red Bull as the European champions push to prise the teenager from Leipzig.
Al-Khelaifi’s long-standing relationship with Red Bull’s hierarchy has smoothed the process. Those close to the talks now believe an agreement is edging closer, with Leipzig having already accepted internally that Diomande is moving towards Paris.
Earlier this month, Leipzig tested the waters on a compromise: sell now, keep him on loan for another season. It was a neat solution on paper, protecting their sporting project while banking a huge fee.
Luis Enrique was having none of it.
The PSG head coach has made it plain he wants Diomande in his squad immediately. No delayed arrival, no extended Bundesliga stay. He wants the Ivory Coast prodigy in Paris this summer, learning his patterns, feeling the weight of the shirt, part of the next iteration of his attack.
PSG are backing that stance with money. They are prepared to pay around €110 million (£93.5m, $126m) to close the deal and are not flinching.
Premier League pushback
The size of the fee and the player’s ceiling were always going to attract late drama. It has arrived from exactly the clubs you would expect.
Liverpool, long-term admirers of Diomande, have been the most persistent of the English suitors. They have maintained regular dialogue with the player’s camp, hoping for the slightest crack in PSG’s position or the player’s resolve. The plan is simple: stay close, stay informed, and be ready to move the moment anything goes wrong in Paris.
So far, nothing has.
Arsenal have re-entered the picture too. Their renewed interest comes on the back of missing out on Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers, a setback that caught them off guard and forced a rethink in their attacking plans.
The Gunners had been tracking Diomande throughout the summer, but that failure has sharpened their focus. Sources confirm they have gone back in with fresh enquiries, testing whether there is any room to maneuver despite PSG’s advanced talks.
Manchester City have also made their position clear. With Savinho expected to complete his move to Tottenham Hotspur, City remain in the market for another wide attacker and have let Diomande’s camp know they would be ready to act quickly if his stance towards PSG shifted.
The answer has been the same for all three.
Diomande’s focus, they have been told, is fixed on the Parc des Princes.
No auction, no games
One key detail from the negotiations: Red Bull are not playing the usual auction game.
Sources stress that Leipzig and the Red Bull group are not using Premier League interest to inflate the asking price. Talks with PSG are continuing on their own track, independent of the late approaches from England.
Both PSG and Leipzig are also fully aware of complications stemming from Diomande’s recent change of representation. The switch of agents has triggered ongoing discussions around elements of his image rights. Those issues are still being ironed out, but the expectation among all parties is that they will not derail the transfer.
So the deal moves towards its decisive phase.
PSG want one of the biggest transfers of the summer wrapped up. Luis Enrique wants his new winger on the training pitch, not on another club’s team sheet. Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City are still circling, still calling, still hoping for a twist.
Unless something dramatic breaks, though, the next time Europe sees Yan Diomande in a new shirt, it will be under the Paris lights, playing for the man who refused to wait another year.
