The Yan Diomande saga has moved from slow burn to full blaze. Europe’s heavyweights are circling, and the 19-year-old winger has become the most coveted attacking talent on the market, with the battle now crystallising into a straight fight between Real Madrid and PSG.
For a player who only recently emerged as a top-tier prospect, Diomande has turned the summer window on its head. Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City – the Premier League’s dominant trio of recent seasons – all made their play. From the continent, serial Champions League contenders Real Madrid and PSG stepped forward. Everyone wants the Ivorian. Only two look ready to go to war for him.
Liverpool step back, Leipzig dig in
Liverpool were the first to show serious intent. Their offer: €100m, structured as €80m guaranteed and €20m in add-ons. RB Leipzig’s response was blunt. Rejected.

PSG have hesitated. Extensive talks, yes. An official bid, no. That pause has changed everything.
Arsenal and City test the waters, Diomande shuts the door
The hesitation in Paris invited others back in. Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool all re-established contact with Diomande’s camp earlier in the week, sensing a crack in PSG’s grip on the situation.
On Friday night, Real Madrid made their move. A €100m proposal – €90m fixed, €10m in add-ons – landed on Leipzig’s desk. It went the same way as Liverpool’s. Rejected.
Around the same time, Fabrizio Romano revealed that Arsenal and City had made their own “calls” about a potential deal. The response from the player’s side was decisive. Diomande is not entertaining their interest. No Premier League bids are on the table, and none are expected from those two.
Romano summed it up on X: Manchester City and Arsenal have made contact, but “the player’s not opening doors.” No bids from the Premier League, and only one club prepared to go “all in” against PSG – Real Madrid, whose first offer Leipzig have already turned down.
So the field has thinned. Arsenal and City are out. Liverpool have gone quiet. The race has narrowed.
PSG’s grip loosens as frustration grows
On paper, PSG still hold the advantage. Diomande’s preference, according to insider Graeme Bailey, remains a move to Paris. He has agreed a long-term contract, he has chosen his project, and the French champions have made him feel wanted.
But patience has limits.
The player and his camp are increasingly irritated by PSG’s failure to turn talks into a concrete bid. Leipzig’s stance is clear, the valuation is known, and still there is no official offer from Paris. Only conversations between PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Red Bull powerbroker Oliver Mintzlaff.
That delay has opened a door that once looked closed.
Diomande is now ready to say yes to Real Madrid if they are the ones who finally meet Leipzig’s demands. Preference is one thing. Ambition is another. A career cannot wait forever on a club that refuses to pull the trigger.
Mourinho steps in, Real Madrid sharpen their focus
The Madrid angle has gained serious weight with one key development: José Mourinho’s approval.
As reported by Romano, the Real Madrid manager has personally signed off on Diomande as the club’s top attacking target. Mourinho has told the Madrid hierarchy he wants “even more speed” and fresh legs in his front line. Diomande ticks those boxes. Explosive, direct, and still only 19.
Real have already tested Leipzig’s resolve with that €90m plus €10m bid. It was not enough. Leipzig are holding out for an “exceptional fee,” as Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg put it. In their eyes, €100m does not qualify.
Plettenberg also underlined the precarious position PSG now find themselves in. No official bid from Paris. Only dialogue at the highest level. Diomande has chosen PSG and agreed terms, but Leipzig will not budge from their valuation. If Real Madrid return with an improved offer, he warned, it could become “very difficult” for PSG to win this battle.
The equation is brutally simple.
A decision that will define a career
If PSG match Leipzig’s price, Diomande will sign for them. That is still his first choice. The contract is ready, the intention is clear.
But PSG have yet to show any willingness to go to Leipzig’s number. They have not even lodged an opening bid. Real Madrid, on the other hand, have already been to the table and are weighing up their next move, armed with Mourinho’s backing and a clear tactical need.
So the momentum has shifted. The saga that once looked destined to end in Paris now leans towards the Bernabéu. All it will take is a Madrid offer that Leipzig deem satisfactory.
At that point, the question will no longer be who wants Yan Diomande the most, but who truly believes he is worth paying exceptional money for – and which superclub is prepared to let the next great winger slip into the other’s colours.
