Arsenal Pursue Bruno Guimaraes as Transfer Window Heats Up

The summer transfer window has finally caught fire. Across England’s elite, chequebooks are open, agents are circling and the numbers are starting to look dizzying.

At the centre of it all, Arsenal.

Arsenal push on Guimaraes as spending soars

Arsenal are preparing a major play for Bruno Guimaraes after the midfielder informed Newcastle he wants to leave. Initial conversations with his camp have already taken place and a concrete bid is expected once the Gunners turn interest into formal action.

Newcastle insist Guimaraes is not for sale, but Arsenal are ready to test that stance in a deal that could push their outlay close to £200million when combined with priority target Morgan Rogers. Bradley Barcola is also on the radar, though the Frenchman would command around £130m.

Behind those headline numbers sits a quieter piece of business: former Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier has passed his medical and is set to join on a free transfer as third-choice, reinforcing the depth behind Aaron Ramsdale and David Raya.

The recruitment drive does not end there. Arsenal are tracking Norway’s World Cup breakout Antonio Nusa, currently at RB Leipzig. The 21‑year‑old, valued between €50m and €60m, has attracted a queue of admirers, with Tottenham, Newcastle, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace all watching closely.

One player Aston Villa have no intention of losing is Ezri Konsa. The Midlands club, according to reports, are determined to “do everything” to block any Arsenal move for their centre-back and are ready to make negotiations as awkward as possible should the London club come calling.

Manchester United move fast, Chelsea reshuffle

Up the M6, Manchester United have finally landed on a midfield target and moved with rare clarity. They have agreed a £50m fee with Chelsea for Andrey Santos, the Brazilian prospect who now looks set to swap west London for Old Trafford.

Santos’s departure gives Chelsea fresh funds to reinvest. One option on their list is Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, previously linked with United but now firmly in the Blues’ sights as they reshape their midfield.

United are not stopping there. Ederson is flying in for a medical after Brazil’s early World Cup exit, with the club keen to strengthen the spine of Erik ten Hag’s squad before pre-season gathers pace.

Chelsea, meanwhile, continue to work on defensive reinforcements. Talks remain ongoing for Maxence Lacroix and Pep Chavarria as the club try to balance outgoings with targeted additions.

One rising talent is already on the move. Jesse Derry, who made his Premier League debut for Chelsea last season, has signed a new long-term contract running until 2032 and is now close to a season-long loan at Sporting. It is a classic Chelsea play: secure the asset, then send him out to grow.

Tottenham ready another big swing

Tottenham have already spent over £230m, but the spending is not slowing. The club are ready to go again for Bournemouth forward Eli Junior Kroupi, a deal that could climb towards £100m.

Rafael Leao has also been linked, underlining Spurs’ ambition to surround Ange Postecoglou with a front line that can go toe-to-toe with anyone in the division. For a club that once hesitated in the market, this is a very different Tottenham.

Liverpool search for life after Salah

On Merseyside, the question hangs heavy: what does Liverpool look like without Mohamed Salah?

The club are working through options for a successor, with Crysencio Summerville the latest forward to be linked. The Leeds winger fits the profile Liverpool have often favoured – young, direct, with room to explode at a higher level – but serious decisions now loom over how aggressively they move in the post-Salah era.

Continental chess: Juve, Barca and Atletico make their moves

Across Europe, the market is just as restless.

Juventus are deep into their pursuit of Emiliano Martinez. Talks with the Argentina goalkeeper’s representatives have taken place and an agreement in principle is in place on a three-year deal in Turin. The stand-off comes over price: Aston Villa want around €10m for their No1, a figure Juve are currently unwilling to match.

Barcelona, busy reshaping their attack, have turned to Karim Adeyemi. The Borussia Dortmund winger has agreed personal terms with the Catalan club and wants the move, with his contract in Germany expiring next year. Direct negotiations between Dortmund and Barca are under way as Hansi Flick pushes to add more pace and penetration to his forward line.

Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, have landed a midfielder coveted in England. They have struck a €40m agreement with Sporting CP for Morten Hjulmand, ending Arsenal and Manchester United’s hopes of bringing the Dane to the Premier League.

Palace on the front foot, Herrington in demand

Crystal Palace are not content to sit quietly on the fringes of this window. The club have reached an agreement to sign Oscar Mingueza on a free after his exit from Celta Vigo. The Spaniard’s ability to operate at both centre-back and right-back gives Palace valuable flexibility as they look to refresh their back line.

They are also among the clubs monitoring Antonio Nusa, further proof that Palace intend to stay aggressive in the market rather than simply react to departures.

On the other side of the Atlantic, a teenager is drawing heavyweight attention. Colorado Rapids defender Lucas Herrington, who impressed for Australia at the World Cup, has Barcelona, Liverpool and Manchester United all circling, according to reports. The MLS club are believed to be open to a sale, with the possibility of Herrington remaining in the United States on loan for a season before any move is officially completed.

Fabinho eyes Madrid return

One familiar name could be on the move again. Fabinho, a free agent after leaving Al Ittihad, is open to joining Real Madrid this summer. The Brazilian, spending time in the Spanish capital after Brazil’s World Cup defeat by Norway, has made no secret of his desire to return to the Bernabeu.

For now, though, Madrid are not actively pursuing a deal. With their focus elsewhere, Fabinho waits, hopeful that circumstances change before the window closes.

The numbers are climbing, the rumours are hardening into negotiations, and the first major dominoes are starting to fall. With Arsenal preparing a huge play for Guimaraes, United reshaping their midfield, and Europe’s giants circling the same pool of emerging talent, the real question is simple: who blinks first as the stakes rise over the coming weeks?
