Guglielmo Vicario Joins Juventus on Loan from Tottenham

Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario is heading back to Italy, with Juventus winning the race for his signature after Fabrizio Romano delivered his trademark “here we go” confirmation.

The agreement ends a difficult chapter for Vicario in north London. By the end of last season, it was obvious his time at Spurs was winding down. Form deserted him, confidence dipped, and he became one of several underperformers in a campaign that saw Tottenham escape relegation by just two points on the final day. A hernia operation in March opened the door for Antonin Kinsky, and the Italian never truly regained his place or his standing.

Juventus had been looking elsewhere. Emiliano Martinez was their first major target as they searched for a new No.1, only for that move to fall apart. That failure pushed the Bianconeri back towards Serie A roots and, crucially, towards Vicario.

Italian reporter Gianluca Di Marzio detailed how quickly the Turin club then moved. Juventus, he wrote, had “stepped up their game”, accelerating talks and driving the deal into its final stretch. Negotiations with Tottenham gathered pace, with both clubs working on a structure that would suit everyone: a loan with an option to buy, rather than an obligation.

That detail matters. It gives Juventus flexibility as they reshape their squad, and it gives Spurs a cleaner exit route while still protecting some future value. It also fits the wishes of the player, who has been keen to return to Serie A after a bruising year in England.

The intensity of the talks was underlined by the presence of Vicario’s agent in Turin. Initially in the city to finalise a separate deal for Jhon Lucumí, he quickly switched focus, using his time with the Juventus hierarchy to push Vicario’s move over the line. From there, the negotiations became a sprint rather than a slow march, with all parties working to close the final gaps.

The pressure finally told. Romano announced on X that Juventus had agreed a deal with Tottenham, confirming Spurs had accepted a loan proposal with a buy option that is “not mandatory”. He added that Vicario “wanted the move and leaves #THFC today. New goalkeeper for Juventus.”

David Ornstein backed up the news, reporting that Tottenham had accepted Juve’s overnight bid. His version matched the framework: a loan now, an option to buy the 29-year-old Italy international next summer, and a clear expectation from all sides that the transfer will be completed after Juventus abandoned their Martinez pursuit.

For Vicario, it is a chance to reset his career at one of Italy’s giants. For Tottenham, it is a decisive break from a goalkeeper who never fully convinced in a turbulent season. The next question is simple: can Juventus turn this low-risk option into a long-term solution between the posts?
