Harry Kane Cools Premier League Comeback Talk

Harry Kane has drawn a line under the Premier League return saga – at least for now.

The Bayern Munich striker, long linked with a comeback to England via Manchester United or a romantic reunion with Tottenham, has made it clear his focus is firmly rooted in Germany and in a new chapter of his career.

Kane cools Premier League comeback talk

Since swapping north London for Bavaria in 2023, Kane has done exactly what many expected: score, relentlessly. He has ripped through Bundesliga backlines and carried that same ruthlessness into Europe, with 33 goals in 38 Champions League appearances for Bayern.

That form has kept his name on every recruitment list. Manchester United have admired him for years. Tottenham, still searching for a true heir to the goalscoring throne he vacated, have never fully closed the door. TEAMtalk reported last week that both clubs were prepared to explore a move this summer, with Spurs particularly keen under new head coach Roberto De Zerbi and United’s co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe known to be an admirer.

The narrative almost writes itself. Kane, the Premier League’s modern marksman, returning to chase down Alan Shearer’s all-time record. He left England on 213 league goals, within sight of Shearer’s 260, with only Wayne Rooney (208) also past the 200 mark in the Premier League era.

Yet the storyline has shifted.

“That itch isn’t there as much anymore”

Speaking after receiving the European Golden Shoe, Kane laid out his thinking in candid fashion, with quotes carried by journalist Henry Winter.

“When I first left, for sure it was something that I thought I’d definitely be coming back. That itch isn’t there as much anymore,” he admitted.

“I’m extremely happy here in Munich. It’s opened my eyes to a totally different world of football outside of England. It’s made me appreciate European football even more.

“With the team we have here, with the manager (Vincent Kompany). My family are really settled here. It’s just about being in the best place possible.

“I never say never but, for now, I’m concentrating on Bayern Munich and we’ll see what the future holds.”

Those words land like a thud for clubs in England. The Premier League pull that once seemed irresistible has faded. The Shearer chase, for now, is on ice.

Bayern in control as talks swirl

Kane’s stance comes against a backdrop of intrigue around his next contract. Reports emerged of his representatives holding unexpected talks with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, a sign of how wide the net is being cast for elite forwards.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, though, has indicated the most likely outcome is far less dramatic: Kane signing fresh terms at Bayern Munich.

That possibility now feels aligned with the player’s own public message. He is settled. He is winning individual honours. He is leading the line for a club that expects to challenge for the Champions League every season, under a new manager in Vincent Kompany who wants to build around him.

So the long-running question that has hovered over Kane’s career – when will he come back to England? – suddenly loses its urgency. The answer, at least in his own mind, seems simple enough.

Not yet. And maybe not at all.
