Juventus Signs Jhon Lucumí for €18 Million
Juventus have their new defensive cornerstone – and they paid decisively to get him.
The club have wrapped up a deal for Jhon Lucumí, striking an agreement with Bologna worth an initial €18 million plus a further €2 million in potential bonuses. The Colombian centre-back has signed a four-year contract in Turin, earning €3 million net per season, a clear signal that Juventus see him as a starter, not a squad option.
Just as telling is Lucumí’s own choice. Faced with several other offers, he pushed for black and white. The move is as much about ambition as it is about money.
From Cali to Turin, via Belgium and Bologna
Lucumí’s path to Juventus has been steady rather than spectacular, but every step has toughened him. He broke through at Deportivo Cali at just 17, then crossed the Atlantic to join Genk in 2018, where he grew into one of the most reliable defenders in the Belgian league.
That growth is exactly what Juventus highlighted in their official announcement, hailing a player “at the peak of his powers, ready to make an immediate contribution to the team ahead of the 2026/27 season.” The welcome message ended simply: “Welcome to Juventus, Jhon!” The fanfare was brief, the message clear: he is expected to deliver now.
Bologna know exactly what they are losing. Since arriving there in the summer of 2022, Lucumí has been a constant presence, racking up 152 appearances in all competitions across four seasons. He didn’t just fill a role; he anchored a backline that pushed the Rossoblu into the Champions League and onto the European stage.
He even left a mark on that stage, scoring one of his two goals for Bologna during their Champions League run at Stadio Renato Dall’Ara. For a centre-back, the numbers aren’t about goals. They’re about trust. Bologna built their defence around him. Juventus now intend to do the same.
Straight into the Juventus machine
There will be no gentle easing-in period. With the transfer completed, Lucumí will immediately join tactical sessions with his new Bianconeri teammates as the coaching staff reshape a backline that has needed renewal.
The timing is tight but tantalising. Juventus open their 2026-27 Serie A campaign away to Frosinone on Sunday, August 23, and that fixture is already being circled as Lucumí’s likely competitive debut. An away trip, a new shirt, a new defence to marshal.
