Leipzig Pursue Nkunku Reunion Amid Newcastle Interest

Christopher Nkunku is edging towards a return to familiar ground. RB Leipzig have struck a preliminary agreement with Milan to bring the France forward back to Saxony in the current transfer window, reopening a door that once turned him into one of Europe’s most exciting attacking talents.

The framework on the table is clear. As reported by Foot Mercato, Leipzig would take Nkunku on loan for around €3 million, with a purchase option set at roughly €27 million. The structure suits the Bundesliga side, spreading the financial hit and giving them a season to judge whether the former talisman can rediscover his old rhythm.

The deal is not over the line yet. Leipzig still need to agree personal terms with Nkunku, a key step before any medicals or formalities. Until that happens, Milan wait, and so does the rest of the market.

For Leipzig, this is about rewinding the tape. They want to bring Nkunku back to the club where he exploded into a prolific, versatile forward, after a spell at Milan that never matched the expectations attached to his name and price tag. Milan, for their part, are working out the cleanest way to move him on, weighing the security of an immediate sale against the flexibility of a loan with a buy option.

Just as Leipzig thought they had a clear path, the Premier League noise has grown louder.

Newcastle push for permanent deal

Newcastle United have not stepped aside. Far from it. They remain firmly in the race for Nkunku and are maintaining active talks with both Leipzig and the player’s camp.

Their angle is different – and potentially decisive. Newcastle are keen to structure a permanent transfer straight away rather than a loan. That stance could appeal strongly to Milan, who may prefer an outright sale and guaranteed income now over a loan with a deferred purchase option.

If Newcastle put a convincing permanent offer on the table, it could tilt the negotiations. Leipzig’s emotional pull and tactical fit stand against the financial clarity and Premier League stage Newcastle can offer.

So the battle lines are drawn: a return to the club where Nkunku made his name, or a fresh start in England with a long-term commitment. Milan are listening. The next move belongs to the player – and to the club willing to go all the way.
