Manchester City Pursue Palmeiras Winger Elias Amidst Squad Overhaul
Manchester City are pushing ahead with plans to sign highly rated Palmeiras winger Elias as they scramble to reshape their attack after a summer of upheaval, according to The Athletic.
The 22-year-old sits on a shortlist of wide options identified by City, with Tottenham Hotspur moving closer to a deal for Savinho. As Spurs accelerate, City are trying to keep pace in a market that has suddenly become a sprint.
A deal with complications
City’s interest is clear. The path to a deal is anything but.
Palmeiras insist their winger is not for sale in this window, a firm stance that points towards a potential standoff. Inside the Brazilian club, the message is blunt: any club that wants him must trigger his €100m release clause. No negotiation, no discount, no soft landing for European giants.
For a player still waiting for a senior international cap, that is a statement of how highly Palmeiras rate him – and how determined they are to keep him at the heart of their project.
Rising star at Palmeiras
Since stepping into Palmeiras’ first team in 2025, Allan has grown from promising youngster to central figure at remarkable speed. He has already logged 48 Serie A appearances, chipping in six goals and five assists, numbers that only tell part of the story.
His game blends sharp acceleration with a calmness on the ball that belies his age. That mix of technical polish and composure has dragged European scouts to Brazil in increasing numbers, and City are far from alone in tracking his progress.
This season he has already scored six times in all competitions, driving Palmeiras’ title push at the top end of the Brazilian league. The only thing missing from his résumé is a senior Brazil call-up, but his current trajectory suggests that may not be far away.
Maresca’s overhaul gathers pace
City’s pursuit of Allan comes amid one of the most dramatic squad reshapes the club has seen in years.
Rodri, the midfield anchor of their recent success, has gone to Barcelona. Bernardo Silva, the man who seemed to solve every tactical puzzle, has joined Real Madrid. Tijjani Reijnders has also left the Etihad. Enzo Maresca is not just tweaking a winning machine; he is rebuilding its core.
Around those exits, the transfer carousel keeps spinning. Newcastle United are in talks to sign midfielder Nico Gonzalez. Tottenham, busy on multiple fronts, are chasing Omar Marmoush while they negotiate for Savinho.
In that context, Allan is more than just another exciting winger. He would be a symbol of how City intend to rearm: younger, more direct, and increasingly sourced from South America.
A clear South American strategy
If City can land Allan, he would continue a trend that is becoming hard to ignore.
The club have already dipped heavily into the South American market. Vitor Reis arrived in January 2025. Before that, City secured Argentine youth international Claudio Echeverri from River Plate for around £12.5m plus add-ons, a deal that underlined their willingness to invest early in emerging stars.
This summer has brought further change. Elliott Anderson has joined from Nottingham Forest, 17-year-old Jeremy Monga has arrived from Leicester City, and goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli has signed from Marseille. Each move nudges the squad in a slightly different direction, away from the familiar faces that defined the previous era.
The early signs on the pitch, though, have been harsh. A 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in the Community Shield exposed just how much work Maresca still has to do.
Now City open their Premier League campaign at home to Bournemouth on Sunday, still searching for rhythm, still reshaping their identity – and possibly still locked in a tug-of-war with Palmeiras over a winger they believe can help define their next cycle.
